1/2 liter? You're in Munich man!

Where is your hotel? Based on your walk, I have to wonder if you're close to Löwenbräu Keller -- be more fun than a can in the room.

I knew I was going to order that Edelstoff too, so I had to limit myself to half-liter pours.

I'm at the Holiday Inn Express Munich West, just east of the Hirschgarten stop and adjacent to the rail yard on the S-Bahn. The Hirschgarten Park is just northwest of the hotel, very walkable. I can't find anything on the Löwenbräu Keller location, but it's a moot point since it's bedtime now and the tour starts tomorrow with all of its activities.

Would love to retire and move to Munich one day. One of my all time greatest cities.

When I win the lottery I plan to split my time between Munich and Dublin.

I hope your trip includes a day at Oktoberfest, it’s lots of fun.
Usually it starts around the third week in September as I recall.

Check out Englisher Park if you get a chance, a great way to spend an afternoon exploring. Then relax in one of the bier gardens when you’re done.
    Prost! :beers:

Our tour ends the day before Oktoberfest, so we won't be part of that crowd. We did the spring festival in 2017 during our last trip to Munich, and visited the English Gardens and the Chinese Tower biergarten during that trip too.

We'll leave Munich to work our way up toward Frankfurt and spend our last week visiting a former exchange student from 1996 and her family, plus an old college roommate from 1970. So Oktoberfest is an event that we likely will never do at our age. Better to watch the highlights on TV.

If you change your mind and extend your vacation to include a visit to Oktoberfest, you might want to consider buying some shoes from Adidas engineered for this event (assuming they still make them). They are purported to be both vomit and beer proof.

    Prost!

My wife found them online after your post for 160€. These are cool for sure. I think for me though I normally go to fests in local garb it would not fit. I have three sets formal, unformal and I don't care if I get beer spilled on them at a fest wear. The thrid set ran me about 300€ 15 years ago and the other two are way over 1000€.

I still think that then are cool. Another fine example of Bavarian engineering,

FWIW they 'designed' these shoes (e.g., color selection) to accessorize traditional garb:

I am not a fashion designer so I will not comment as to how well they achieved here.

Maybe show this photo to your wife and see what she thinks?

    Cheers!

P.S. My wife will often comment that I don't understand colors. My reply is that I know about five colors: black, red, white, blue and green! :stuck_out_tongue:

We started Saturday with a trip on the S-Bahn to Marianplatz. The glockenspiel had just finished its show of mechanical characters, but no big deal since we saw it a few times during our 2017 visit. We walked on over to the Viktualienmarkt for a morning beer, a Radler and a snack. The place was a zoo because it was invaded by fans for both teams of a football match that was to occur later today.

A short walk from there was Hofbrauhaus, and it was also jammed by football fans, tourists, and I don't know who else. We managed to find two tables close to each other for our group of 16, so we had another beer.

After that.we moved onward to the Oktoberfest Bier Museum. Interesting stuff in there but not earth shattering. A bierstube at street level that is part of the museum didn't attract us since we felt a need to pace ourselves.

Then on to a microbrewery for a tour, Higgins Ale House. This brewery is located literally in the shadow of the huge Spaten Brewery, being across the street on the north side of it.

By then it was dinnertime, so a short walk to the Augustiner Keller for another beer and dinner under the trees during a pleasant evening.

A nice tour of Minga (Bavarian) Franconia is next. I hope that you still have energy for our meet up on Saturday for the long tour at Ayinger.
