Thanks for that input. Troegs prices this beer too high for a subpar product, a pass for me.

Yeah, to be clear, it's not a bad beer, just nothing like the special one it was back in the day.

I am not disputing your point but $13.49-ish for a six pack is not a high price for today's market (unfortunately).

Yeah, I understand you. My last purchase of Nugget Nectar a few years ago tasted OK but it had zero, and I do mean zero, hop aroma; not as good as prior batches. Cheers!

Also, as a point of comparison, there were some "off" years of Hopslam (like 2017-20) before it returned to something close to the original. Point is, my palate memory's pretty good; this isn't just wishful thinking.

I will use that money to buy Fat Heads Head Hunter IPA instead.

Or even better, Hop Juju. (Which I understand is going to become a year-round release.) @Blogjackets

It’s supposed to start being year round in March. Cheers.

6 pack of 12oz cans in NY; 1/2/24 canning date.

Dim nose - definitely not the Amsterdam coffee shop aroma of 15 years ago.
Tastes of lots of bright orange, like hard candy or Creamsicle, over a malt base of blonde caramel.
Solid bitterness, slightly sticky, no booziness at all.

Maybe not as deep as days of old, but a top notch amber + a lot of fun to drink.

Picked up a 6-pack of cans— best by date of 4/18/2024. As others have mentioned, there’s barely any nose. I remember the incredible smell of hops this had back in the day. It still is an enjoyable beer, though, and at a price of $12.99 I have no regrets.

Trying to stick to the low ABV stuff, but Double NN is sounding great!

In my part of MD the 4x16oz cans and the six pack bottles of NN are both going for $13.99. I went with the bottles. Tasting very very good and I’ve been drinking NN seasonal every year for last 10-12 years.

Do you think there has been a shift in hop aroma expectations since the proliferation of NEIPAs, that in my opinion often do have intense hop aroma but little else?

A shift in the "Overton window" of hop aroma?

That may be true overall, but I don't think that's what's going on with NN.

Once upon a time, it smelled hoppier than an actual bag of hop pellets.
That's definitely not true this year.

I'm gonna start the NN earlier next year just so we can accurately name it accurately:

I probably won't hence this post

Maybe, but when I look back at my original BA review from 2010, and I see that I wrote about an aroma of "bold hops", I second guess what that would have meant to me then vs. now
