I'm heading to Gettysburg this week, and was thinking of stopping at Troegs on the way home to MA. Is it worth the stop? Do they have anything outside of their standard releases available? And if so, how is it? Also, I'll be staying in Gettysburg next to ABC. I'm sure I'll find my way in, but is there somewhere in town with an interesting, local draft selection?

Anxious to hear about places in Gettysburg as I'll be there next weekend.

As for Troegs, I'd stop. You can check their website to see if tours are stil available. IIRC, it's about $5pp and you get the guided tour, samples of 3 beers (again, IIRC) and get to keep the glass. I've heard that they added more food items since the last time I was there and there is usually a good selection of their bottled stuff available in the gift shop and some good stuff on tap. Just my opinion anyway.

If you're looking for bottles of brews available in PA to take back, you may want to check into stopping into the Brass Rail Deli which is nearby (maybe 10 minutes from Troegs).

Thanks for the info. Are Bell's and Cigar City available in PA?

Tommy's pizza in Gettysburg off of steinwehr ave. good selection and pizza. Otherwise not much. Gary Owens is an Irish pub. Decent food and atmosphere.

Bell's is. Cigar City is listed as available on seekabrew.com but noted as "LIMITED" and I've only seen it in the Philly area and demand seems to outstrip supply.

Troegs is definitely worth the stop. In addition to what was mentioned, they also do growler fills for most of their scratch beers. The last few weeks they have had anywhere from 5-9 scratch or limited beers that are not available through normal distribution. They fill any growler, but will only counter pressure the large swingtops. If you have some time, their popcorn and fries are killer.

That's great. Just what I needed to hear. And if I can grab a sixer or two of Bell's Two-Hearted that would make for a great score.

According to Troegs website, as of Thursday there were six scratch beers on tap in the tasting room, along with Naked Elf and Rugged Trail.

If its still there, at least try Triple Mango IPA.

Troegs is worth it. They almost always have at least one Scratch series beer on tap, and I've seen as many as 4 on at one time.

Even if you can't get on the tour, they have a self guided tour. It's isn't very big, but you get to see inside the brewery itself.

Yeah, I'm definitely gonna stop by. I've had all of their regular offerings, but I'm looking forward to trying the scratch beers and taking a growler or two home.

I'll probably skip the tour though--I'm currently on brewery tour overload. I think I need a break from looking at big steel tanks. At this point, I just want to taste the beer and talk about it. And I seriously don't want to try my wife's beer patience since we plan to stop at New England Brewing Co. too.

Thanks for commenting. Last thing--Is finding Bells Two-Hearted possible in or around Hershey or Gettysburg? Best I can figure out so far is driving 45 minutes west of Gettysburg. Is there anywhere closer?

    Thanks everyone.

I live in Lancaster, which is about 35 minutes or so from Hershey. I can find Two-Hearted around here, so I imagine you should be able to find some near Hershey.

I would recommend stopping at Al's of Hampden/ Pizza Boy on your way. They are putting out some great beers, and are supposed to be tapping a lot of new beers this week, including a few sours. You should also be able to get bottles of Two Hearted there.

Miss the old Gettysburg BC. The pretzel factory was great and the Blue Parrot always had an ok selection. .

Troegs is definitely worth a stop, don't miss the opportunity if you're close by. There were 4 scratch beers on tap, including the triple mango, as of last week.

As for Gettysburg, the only place you will find a sixer of Bell's is at the Giant grocery store. Whatever you do, check the dates before you buy anything there, they have a large but pedestrian selection of craft and it doesn't turn over very fast. I have found numerous 6 packs and bombers of IPA/DIPA that are close to, or over a year old, buyer beware.

Tommy's Pizza in town has the best selection draft wise. They have 9 rotating craft taps and usually have some very good stuff on, plus they fill growlers if you have one with you (or you can buy one of theirs). They have a small 6 pack cooler that is filled with mostly local stuff.....Troegs, Victory, Yards etc. But they do usually have a small but awesome selection of bombers, they just got in the Stone W00t Stout and last time I was there they had Speedway Stout and Cigar City Double Black Humidor Series bottles as well.

    Hope that helps.

Also - don't be fooled by the Trรถegs'Snack Bar'. It's more like a Panera Bread - style gourmet restaurant with some great specials to pair with their draft beers on tap.

I would suggest taking Rt. 15N to Camp Hill which puts you minutes from Westy's Distributor (get a case of 2 Hearted) then just another few minutes to Al's of Hampden/Pizza Boy (I have gotten bottles of Cigar City at Al's but it's been awhile), Al's is right off Interstate 81 which is then a straight shot to Troegs pretty much. In travel time this route is no longer than any other you'd take from Gburg to Hershey. Long live Dave Baker "The Beer ****".
