I was surprised that Lagunitas Imperial Red Ale was just as good as Troegs Nugget Nectar (NN). NN is a very good beer, but Lagunitas continually surprises me. Lagunitas does a great job on producing very good beers that are quite available at a decent price. I was wondering if others had differing opinions and is there a better Red Ale out there?

I have only had Lagunitas so I can not vote but I was also supprised at how awesome it was.

I had both of them yesterday- side by side. The NN is about 2 weeks fresher. The Lagunitas tatstes like NN used to taste. I like the way NN used to taste more.

I've tried both and I prefer Great Lakes Nosferatu (listed by BA as an ASA but by the brewery as an Imperial Red).

Nugget Nectar, Nosferatu, then Lagunitas for me. Liked them all but in that order I would rank them.

Lagunitas, other than A Little Sumpin Sumpin, is not worth the dialoge around these forums. Definately not in comparison to Nugget Nectar.

I voted "other" because I rated them both about the same. Was so pleasantly surprised by the Lagunitas. Hard to beat a fresh Nugget Nectar though.

Tough call. I think I have to give it to Lagunitas though. It struck me as ever so slightly brighter and cleaner. Either way, this is a style that's growing in popularity and I'm thrilled about that. Just tried Port Shark Attack last night and loved it. We all win when there are more imperial reds to be had.

Other. Had Tocobaga and Nugget Nectar today, and have to say Toco was much better. Although in its defense the NN was from 2/6 and the Toco was a growler from 3/23.

I love the Lagunitas, but haven't had the NN yet, but it's on my list if I can ever friggin' find some. So, I didn't vote. But Nosferatu is a boss of a beer.

Deschutes Red Chair is right up there. Had on next to a NN yesterday and... wow, very close for me.
