    The Tavern improvises on occasion

They do a spilt of 70% for the tavern and a 30% for crowlers of the beers brewed each week.

Alex said recently that they needed to focus on getting more beers on draft for the tavern. More than likely why they're closed this weekend.

I wasn't able to make it to the Virtue Signaling release but knew I'd be at the tavern that Sunday and figured I'd try it then. It was already gone in 2 days. Usually if I can't make a release I can almost bank on having it on draft at some point that weekend.

People knew about the cans last week because the beer was brought into the tavern at 4:30. No insider info, people just happened to be waiting on if there was a release and found out early.

I had Expert Witness on Friday. Oddly it was listed on the bill as Gingerbread and the waitress told us it was called something else. It was very good. Really dark, heavy, thick and smooth but strong vanilla taste so I couldn’t drink the whole glass. Shared it with my husband. It was a nice birthday dinner but we’ll just sit at the bar next time.

It's pretty routine for the tavern to simplify, or outright change, the names of Troon's beer. I've seen a "IPA" on the menu before. Recently when the brought out a vintage sixtel of Witless Aphorism and ran it through cookies they called it "strong ale."

The killer when they do though is it leads to people creating extraneous listings on Untappd for beers that have existing proper listings.

^yeah i've experienced that too, kind of odd how the tavern either won't have a name or sometimes wrong names... they really should work on that

Never heard "easy to get" and "OH" in the same sentence. Has it finally calmed down a bit over there or is still 1+ hour wait times? Would love to check them out someday but I'm not big into the whole #LineLife thing....(hence why I have't been to Troon or Magnify yet either)

    Cheers

I mean outside of crazy releases like last weekend, Other Half isn't bad anymore, cans routinely make it to Sunday and later into the week now. Its only the really hyped releases where you're likely to get shut out if you don't line up in the morning.

even during the anniversary release - if you were there by like 1 you had a 5 minute wait tops for the 4th anniversary beer.

But yeah, there is generally 1 can that should stick around where if you get there by 3PM you should be able to get it. This week's release will probably see the stout and forever simcoe lasting past the line rush.

^that's basically how tired hands is now too sans "shake" releases.. if you go the same day/night but show up after the line has processed you can get beer easy

even with post notifications, week days are impossible unless you can be there within an hour.

yeah i saw some dude on insta post if it was worth it to drive from Brooklyn to troon as soon as they got the announcement... while sometimes they "may" make it.. .most often they wouldn't... even me in SJ if i had nothing going on in life and i jumped as soon as the post hit, i may not make it coming from 50 mins away... like the russel one... they had a lot of people at the brickfarm so when it was announced they already had 150+ cans allotted to those 50-70 there already

it is what it is... basically just accept to drink the beer at brickfarm or luck into crowlers and don't worry about it or try to trade for them etc.

trying to trade for Troon has become a little bit of joke. I had traders asking for 3 cans (talking 2 HV and a double shake) for a single crowler that retails $13.. Could't get over it and passed. Great stuff but its tough to get and gotten considerable more difficult over the past 2-3 months with people waiting at Brick Farm on possible release days.

Yeah its not worth the effort anymore when you can get stuff as good for far less work.

yeah, troon has put out some great beers - and some, just idk (looking at you Permanent Purgatory), but it's definitely not worth lining up for "just in case" there is a release, especially for 1-4x 32oz growlers. the tavern is nice, but I'm not comfortable driving nearly an hour each way for a few beers (especially with troon's higher average ABV). If the tarvern did growlers, that's another story. If i am going to drive ~hour for beer, i'll just head to Kane/Carton where I know they'll at least have some old faithfuls on standby.

though, it's nice to see that Troon's staff is growing. I truly hope they can catch up and meet their demand or at least let the crowlers last longer than an hour, because their beer is good and I would very much like to have more of it, if it's easier to attain.

unfortunately, i'm not sure if they have the room for brewhouse expansion, but perhaps an extra set of hands allows for increased crowler-ing -- or for increased collabs at bigger breweries that have larger can productions - such as Kane (like they have) and Carton. Crossing state boards, I must say, a Troon and Other Half release would by HYPE HYPE HYPE.

Wow you guys are being goofy. I don't go bellyache in Hidden River's thread about how I can't get their crowlers. I go to their bar when I'm able, and drink the beer because it's delicious. Rather than lamenting about how Troon releases have become more difficult for non locals, you should do the same. Go to Brick Farm, and drink Troon because it's delicious (not to mention lately they've had Referend on tap as well, which is a bonus). The bar does small pours too, so the abv issue can be overcome.

I certainly get that it's not what you want to hear. Just like I'd love for once to be able to take some Hidden River home. But it is what it is.

P.s. their staff has not actually grown. The new staff mentioned in this week's post is Wallace, Alex's new puppy. Heh..

TBH it actually fooled me as well. I rarely read the IG posts in their entirety anymore. I get the alert and run. So I briefly skimmed it, saw new staff, and asked Alex when I saw him. He laughed and introduced me to his new dog. :flushed:

Still not as bad as last April fool's when I asked if he really brewed the pie beer.
