yeah i when i first saw it, i thought it was the dog as well and it just completely slipped my mind when I made the post. Granted i didn't fully recognize the guy holding the dog so I wasn't 100%.

    WOW!!!!!!!!!
You expect us to go to a fantastic restaurant and drink great beer. You are being utterly preposterous. This is 2018, if you can't get it in a can it aint worth shit.

My comment is just regarding to go beer. As most of what I drink is consumed at home or a friend's house, that is the format that is most relevant to me. Sure, I'll pop in every once in a while to try the beer at Brick Farm, but it's not feasible for me to do that often. No bellyaching or complaining. Just a comment.

Can you share the places outside of Hidden River Brewing that you've driven 40, 50, 60 miles to primarily drink beer, not get any packaged goods, and enjoy a plate of food as a secondary indulgence?

I think it’s fair to lament in the difficulty in getting to-go beer. Particularly when it’s partially due to a change in packaging and release times. Obviously it’s still easy enough to go try beer at the tavern, but for those who have to drive a distance it is a bummer to have little to no chance at bringing home anything.

I can’t fault Alex for changing to crowlers and mitigating insane lines with sporadic releases. They obviously are doing well with the system, but some customers are going to be largely left out.

I've driven to both Carton and Kane to have a few beers and not get anything to go numerous times. Not so much anymore because they always have cans and I am inclined to get at least a 4 pack to go.
I have also driven to Rushing Duck for the same purpose but that is only thirty miles.
Again it is only thirty miles, but I used to take a trip to Eddies Roadhouse (which is a great restaurant) primarily because they had Hill Farmstead on tap.

I agree with this. No doubt the food is great at Brick Farm, but I am not going to routinely drive an hour for a bite and a beer or two if I can't take any home with me. That may make me the exception, but I have local places (Tired Hands and F&M) a tad closer to home (not rivaling the food at Brick Farm however). My point earlier in the thread is the group hanging out at Brick Farm waiting on possible release times... That has kinda killed the sporadic urge to jump in the car and hit the release and then hit up Brick Farm afterwards. As my local spots announce their can releases a day or two in advance, it would probably make it much easier for me if the release was announced an hour before hand, so I can understand the benefits to those that are local.

Tired Hands, Kane, Carton, Little Dog, Other Half, Singlecut, Torst... And many more.

I'm not getting your point though.

All of these except for Torst have packaged goods to take away. I'm unsure about Singlecut but you can have a growler filled at any of the other breweries you listed at any time. Outside of 60-75 minutes once a week, you cannot purchase packaged goods for off premise at Troon nor fill a growler to take home.

I'm asking for places that fit the mold of a Troon/Brick Farm setup that are a 60 minute drive for you. Places in which you can't fill a growler of that breweries' product, cannot purchase individual bottles or individual cans to take home, and to enjoy the product you have to do so in a nearby restaurant and not at the brewery itself.

singecut has cans, bottles, growlers, and on-demand crowlers to go. Nice little brewery, kinda expensive though.

My first example was a brewery I enjoy that's nearly 80 miles from me that I'm never able to make releases for take out beer. Yet I go any way when the mood strikes and have a few beers on premises. Hidden River.

What's your point though? Seems you're trying to play a game of "gotcha!"

his point is that it is the exception rather than the norm to not have any take away option other than a 90 min window once a week that is announced 60 minutes beforehand.

When did I say it wasn't? All I said is it's easy to drink Troon's beer if you really want to. And it is. I do the same thing with other small breweries, and provided an example that fit to a tee.

If he has a point or opinion he should state it in plain English. Not attempt to orchestrate a gotcha moment. Particularly considering my initial example is a very similar set up to Troon. Not exact, but similar.

Beyond that, you know the reason Troon does what they do. To prevent people from camping out. The beer is limited, the parking more so. Their success I'm sure has been more rapid than anticipated.

What in your opinion would make sense for Troon to do when they have 200-500 crowlers to go around?

Relax man... I dont think anyone is trying to get anyone here. It was just a minor gripe. I actually ended up receiving last weeks release in a trade last night and I am pumped to try it.

Your defensiveness of a "gotcha moment" is entirely misplaced. I asked a question. It seemed you didn't understand it. I rephrased the question. Still, a misunderstanding. @CharacterZero's post #934 helped to clarify.

Simply, in plain english, I was asking for some of the places you've visited that mirror Troon in their setup. Since Hidden River fills growlers on Thursdays (according to their website) and Tired Hands will fill a growler at any minute they are open these do not mirror Troon's operation.

Troon is one-of-a-kind in my world which is why I was curious and asked the question to learn of others.
