This sounds like it should be a scene in of Portlandia.
    Carrie: "What's the line for?"
Fred: "I don't know. Must be something good. There's a line."
    Carrie: *gets on line*

If he cared, he would have called them at home and told them not to come

Have never been to Troon, but this is one of my favorite threads on BA just because of how ridiculous the whole operation seems, especially for the clientele. I love good hyperlocal set-ups (thinking Fat Orange Cat in CT as an example) but people lining up for a release without anything even guaranteed to be released is peak bad FOMO and holy crap, they deserve exactly what they get.

Have only been to Troon once (for Ageless Witticism, easy in and out on a Saturday afternoon), but I'm glad he's committed to the local following. I'm not even local, but I say screw everyone who lines up without notice. Keep the notices short notice so the locals can get first shot. When Alex is able and has the desire to expand to serve more people he will. Until then, go grab a great meal at the Tavern and taste his beers that way if you don't live within 20 minutes.

There is pretty much nothing down in Cumberland County but that whole Bayshore area of the state is quite beautiful. Would love to see a small nano-op down there someday.

you still can, just go to the brick farm tavern and drink the beer on tap. Really it was always the best way to taste troon beer... just used to be that you could get a growler if you liked something you tried, now with crowlers however it's just not worth the effort to get take-a-way beer. Still great beer just have to go into visiting with the fact that you won't leave with beer... nothing wrong with that, instead of leaving with beer you'll leave with a full stomach of pretty much the best food NJ has to offer from brick farm and great suds and a lasting memory. that is what drew me to brickfarm/troon to begin with... alex's great customer service was the seal on the deal and it's a shame the growlers stopped and went the way of crowler but it's understandable, when you get too damn popular too fast you can't sit there and chew the fat with all the patrons, just not a good model

need to get back up that way soon now that spring is here... was always fun doing brickfarm/troon... conclave... univonville winery... referend on a saturday... it makes a nice little path on the map and the hours of each kind of coincide.. brickfarm opens at 11:30 am... conclave at 1 pm... uninionville is on the way south to referend and referend isn't open till i belive 2 pm so it's kind of the perfect circle and really kind of the perfect tasting... get some suds and food to start your day.. hit conclave to sample the menu and get some take-a-way growlers etc... if you like wine/have your lady with you hit unionville.. it's super nice and basically the best NJ wine we have... then hit referend for some wilds to end the day/afternoon.. if you pace yourself/share pours etc you can easily do all of these spots and end up home safe and sound

if there is a wildcard kane release you can jettison east and hit that too, good thing is brickfarm is open at 11:30 so if you get there for open you can manage to keep your eyes peeled on the insta etc for a surprise drop if you will

but i've said too much and just gave away the playbook, up to you on what you do but that all above is pretty much my perfect saturday for NJ breweries/wine at least it was throughout later 2016 summer 2017... i've been out of the loop since October 2017

I like rural weekend drives and had been planning on checking out Brick Farm Tavern. That beign said though the sudden lack of beer at the restaurant has discouraged me a bit. It's an hour and a half drive one-way for me so I'd rather not take 3 hours out of my day for Troon unless I knew there would be something available on-tap (as you mentioned earlier, probably best to call ahead)

I've definitely considered hitting them back after I visit Carton/Kane but I always end up just taking the Turnpike southbound. I'll definitely stay tuned, hopefully things will improve a little bit for the people driving from out of town.

understandable, i wouldn't even take the 50 min drive if there wasn't 3 or more troon beers on at the tavern, but if i wasn't set on the trip i'd still go and skip troon/brickfarm bc conclave/referend is still worth the effort if i have the time... no offense to troon/brickfarm

Weed Joke crowlers have come and gone, but figured I'd mention them since no one linked the IG post. Not sure if they're still at the Tavern but trying that and Primordial Wound would make for a fantastic day.

My personal recommendation would be to make a day-trip and hit Conclave -> Brick Farm Tavern (to try Troon, maybe cross your fingers for a release) -> Referend

That's a pretty straight shot from north to south and, in my opinion, the best of what the state has to offer. If you leave early enough you can also hit Kane and Icarus if you go east after Referend.

Just make sure your wallet is ready!

It was definitely unique. I was a fan.
