I acquired a 4 tap Beverage Air DD78. I am in the process of building a home bar. I am new to kegerators and wanted some help troubleshooting this one. When I plug it in, it runs and there is air blowing inside the cabinet (temperature control is set to off) When I turn the temperature control to 5 (as the manual says) the compressor (or something) cycles and tries to start but doesn't. I believe its the compressor trying to start...thats what would make sense being I turned on the temp control. And the coil vibrates and rattles when it is cycling. Where do I start with troubleshooting/replacing? There are relays and starting units etc etc. Any help would be awesome. The unit was free, someone bought it from a bar that went out of business and it has been in storage for awhile. It worked when they got it...they used it for a bit till they moved. Now they just wanted it out of their storage.

does this hold temp? put a glass of water inside, let it run for a while and check the temp.

HVAC repair is usually beyond the capacity of the pros around here. a few of use can sort of kind of point out the obvious but if the unit is just not working it really needs to be looked at buy a professional. kind of like getting your transmission fixed via the internet. just ain't going to happen. there are too many variables from thermostat to compressor to refrigerant to evaporator to coils etc.

i recommend you ask a service tech stop by. could be a simple fix. could be a brick. your local Vo-Tech school might give it a try as well.
    Cheers.

There is a start capacitor located right next to compressor. Hopefully that's your issue. But if it's an old unit, might need to step up to a hard start kit.

Ive got a HVAC dude coming out tomorrow to give me an estimate. I think it would make a killer setup for a home bar. But if its more than a couple hundred Ill pass. There are similar units for sale on CL for less than $1000
