Honestly, I love their session ales. They usually have multiple 4.something% or lower brews on tap (Hellion, Prehistoric Dog, Death Ripper) and that is just something you don't see much around here. Stuff I REALLY enjoy drinking and can have a few pints without things going sideways. Their sour program is showing a lot of potential as well. Plus, I would be lying if I didn't mention their aesthetic. I am not a metalhead, but I really dig the branding/art and unique theme to the place. It makes the drinking experience at that spot stand out from all the others.

Big fan of their session stuff as well. Really, though, I have generally enjoyed most of what I have tried from TRVE. That includes Tunnel of Trees, which is one of my favorites.

I like the aesthetic too. And while I wouldn't call myself a metal head, I do enjoy some good metal. Being able to go to a tap room and drink some good beer while listening to a High on Fire album in its entirety (which was my first experience there) was definitely one of the most memorable and enjoyable brewery experiences I have come across. I didn't think that could be matched, then the next time I hit TRVE up they were playing Graveyard's album in its entirety. Double win for me.

That's interesting, the last time I went I almost walked away because it was so dark inside I thought it was closed. To me the aesthetic looks like a burnout's fantasy basement.

I personally do not enjoy the aethestic too much (one of the few styles of music I do not enjoy), but can handle it for a few pints. Though I don't enjoy the music, I do like the fact that they set it up the way they did - its what they wanted to do and have stayed true to it, regardless of the love/hate it brings. Somewhat refreshing. Have not been in a while, but I thought their session stuff was pretty good - nothing that blew me away but pretty good. Have not had their sours yet as I am normally pretty hesitant to purchase a bomber of a brewery's first couple tries at the style, but it sounds like they are actually pretty good. I will give the next release a go.

I live a few blocks away so I'm biased. Tunnel of Trees wildly varies by batch. It's usually great though. Scorn is a fantastic hoppy wheat beer a la Lil Sumpin' Sumpin'. Prehisotoric Dog is a decent Gose (but again, i've had bad batches). Their Black Cascade is a solid Black IPA. Haven't tried any of their sours yet.

I can totally appreciate your approach to this man, bravo. Even though it's not your thing, the aesthetic is a lot of fun. It's why I wanted to try some beer from them, just to see what it's all about. I was really into metal when I was growing up, so I have a soft spot for this sort of thing. Makes you wonder what other designs would be cool. Or is this just pure gimmick?

I did the membership thing for the first two years. It was hit and miss. The first year they weren't doing fills for a couple of months, so I had to cram all of my fills into a shorter period of time than I would have liked. It wasn't the best deal, to be pretty honest. Last year things were much better. In addition to the fills, they had a LOT more beers, and you also get discounts on the bottles. This year I just ended up doing the "bottle" membership, which nabs you 2 of each release beer. That's a better deal than the growlers, especially considering I'm on the other side of town.

Personally, I like the aesthetic and the music, so I consider that to be a nice bonus. I also like the fact that many of their beers are under 6% ABV, yet they're all flavorful. At the same time, it also seems like they changed several of their recipes this year. Beers I loved like Death Ripper and Tunnel taste...well...just different. I wonder if they've changed out some of their hops, as that seems to be the main difference. The sours, stout, and Belgian-influenced beers have remained the same. I think Atma, Wanderlust, Stout O))) and Grey Watcher are on par with any similar beers in the area if not better. Not sure I feel the same way about the "new" Tunnel or Death Ripper anymore.

Interesting to hear about them changing the Tunnel of Trees recipe. Sorry to hear its for the worse, will keep that in consideration next time I am there. Same with Death Ripper, but having only had that one once I might not even be able to notice a difference if I were to try it again.

Plus, that's just my opinion, too. Death Ripper is now hoppier than it was. Before, it was more of an even balance if not even a tiny bit malty. Tunnel is more swampy and dank than it use to be. There are probably a fair number of people that like those beers more, so don't necessarily assume they're worse...just different.

For some reason I have yet to get into these guys. On paper I should totally dig them, but alas... maybe this summer I'll give more things a shot.

Can't really enjoy wheat beers unless they have some tartness to them, so never tried Scorn. But I am with you on Hellion.

Love Scorn! Surprised me, wasn't a style I would typically be into.

Man, TRVE is a place that I've really, really tried to get into...the only beer that I've ever been impressed with was Melissa, which they just released. Everything else has just tasted off, even the bottle releases.

Don't know if TRVE allows trustees but if I can score a Ordo Utris Cerevisiae (OUC) membership on saturday 6/21, I may need a trustee preferably a fellow OUC member. BM if your already a OUC member and wanna help out I will pay for the shipping of my beers. I will be at the Acid temple on saturday 6/21 for the first release.

Just wanted to let people know about trustees for the OUC membership. Its seems TRVE is not to cool about trustees, they will allow them but it does have to be another OUC member as your trustee. You do have to buy a membership in person to verify age. The main concern for them is that the person picking up the beer is 21+. I guess they don't ask for ID when picking up your allotment, but you must have your membership card to pick up your allotment. Thats at least what I am getting from email exchanges with them. I did find a trustee to help me out for future releases.

The pickup next week is going to be interesting. It's being held at the same time as the CS bottle pick-up and the window for grabbing your bottles is only 2 hours with no mention of an alternate day or time.
I never got any sort of membership card...and I couldn't get a clear answer on what happens if you can't be there on 6/21.

    Hey gang,

In regards to membership bottle and growler pick up, both growler and the first bottle release (for more info about the beer, check our blog) will be available at the Acid Temple (2620 West 2nd Ave, Unit 5) on June 21 from noon-2pm. This is the only day where you will pick up either growler or bottles at the Acid Temple. After Saturday, June 21, both will be available for pick up at our tap room during our normal business hours (note: we are closed June 22). We are changing the pickup location to the 21 because that day is our second anniversary, and to avoid total chaos in our tap room, we wanted to move bottle and growler pick up off site for the day. If you did not receive a card when you renewed your membership, please drop by the brewery, and we'll get that squared away.

About OUC trustee memberships, we are not trying to make things wildly inconvenient, but we will only sell it to a person who comes into the tap room.

Please let me know if you have further questions or if this is unclear. Thanks for your support!
