I'm amending my list of recommendations because according to Seekabrew.com, the only american brewer on my original list that distro's to the OP's state is Founders. Seekabrew is sometimes slow to make updates, so you can always go directly to the brewers website. Sorry about your unfortunate situation; I was driving to PA one time, and when I crossed into OH, I swear that under the Welcome To Ohio, The Buckeye State billboard, there was another sign that said" Sorry, we're full- Try Hell or Detroit". Now I know why.:astonished:

I hear you, but still, it was disappointing to me. It just tasted like darker regular yuengling

Granted, that's basically an american style schwartzbier, bust still, I expected more from something labeled "porter"
but yea, I hear you. Id bet that some folks could enjoy it.

Well, OP, I'm pretty sure that every porter ever made has been recommended to you! You've got your work cut out for you. Get started!

Such a good beer, but damnit that beer is a stout. I don't care what Ballast Point says lol

I'd add Rogue Mocha Porter, Smutty Robust & Thirsty Dog Old Leghumper to Founders and Great Lakes to round out a solid top five of American Porters.

It's far from my fave as well, but every once in a while it seems like the right thing to get.

This is probably my favorite and a great first (imperial) porter. The only issue I'd have is that the smaller porters (which I usually don't care for) may seem watery/thin/not as enjoyable in comparison afterwards.

The two you listed are a perfect place to start.

    Came here to say this.

Based on where you live no need to consider other options for your first. Plenty to try after that if you enjoy the style.
