Has anyone had any experience scoring painted bottles (like Rogue, Stone, New Belgium etc.) and turning them into glasses? Some of them are pretty cool, but I've read if you don't take it to a shop to do it, the results are pretty subpar.

    Anyone have tips or stories?

seems you'd have a hard time seeing out of those glasses unless it was super bright outside.

I make a lot of them. Built a jig out of wine box dividers and just use a regular glass cutter. (CAUTION: wear heavy duty gloves. Had a Stone bottle break on me . Took 7 stitches in my thumb) then i take a teapot and boil water and run it over the score line, Then run cold water over the score line. Do this a couple of times and they pop right off ( look for hairline cracks along the bottle). then sand the top and sides with sand paper.

I've never done it, but first attempt would probably just do this + sandpaper:

Not sure what those companies paint with, but I'd do some research on that too...

FWIW, with some of the painted bottles (New Belgium in my experience) the paint wears off very easily.

If you do this make sure you put the string well above the art work because it breaks off a quarter inc h ring!

I saw this on Kickstarter a while ago. Looks like it is finally ready. I am hoping to get one for my birthday.

I haven't tried this with darkness bottles either but I have with a lot of stone/rogue bottles. I actually have a few ruination 10th bottles set aside right now. I have had a lot of trouble with stone compared to rogue though. They seem to break away from the score line much easier than some of the other ones. Just curious has anyone else noticed this?

I have a friend with a masonry saw. It cuts thru the bottles like butter.
