I'm offended and more than a little hurt that you've put me in a clique based on my comments in a beer forum and nothing else.

TV's in bars suck !! period ! Vibe killer......for most cool dive bars. Now if its a sports bar with 15 TV's ... I get it ...people need that

You posted something only to get a rise out of me, and it worked. I can carry a conversation with people I don't agree with, and enjoy other peoples opinion. For what ever reason you hit a nerve with me earlier.

I've lived in several European countries and can vouch that the great many of bars/pubs have televisions in them. The main difference is that the European bar will have a small television hanging in the corner, playing soccer if there is a game, and turned off if there isn't. A good amount of American bars will have ten large televisions playing ESPN constantly, even if it's just four guys yelling at each other while the television is muted.

Honestly I agree with all the sentiment about being able to have both in your life. One of my favorite bars is where I go with my friends and only sit outside on the giant patio that overlooks a river. However tonight I will be going to bar specifically to watch the Tigers and Red Wings while enjoying some good beer. I love both experiences. Options are a wonderful thing.

Nope. All real dive bars have TV's. The old boys hang out during the day and watch the news, the local sports teams get put on when the day shift guys start rolling in after work.

There's a problem with that though. What about the people who are actually listening to the musician, but have to hear you talk over them? One of my locals features music 365 days a year (except for last minute cancellations, with no time to rebook another act), and a lot of the artists they feature are solo acoustic-y singer-songwriter types. I will have stern words with someone who is talking over an artist I just paid $5-15 to see and hear.
