2 months in barrels? Marketing BS at best.

 

As someone who has made BA beers I can share that in my experience 2 months can be plenty of time to impart quite a bit of flavor. It really depends on the barrel and the beer you are aging.

 

Just for reference I attacked him because this is the 3rd time he's brought it up in this thread with no one else asking about it. Maybe not trolling but that is for sure spamming the wrong thread when creating a new thread is pretty easy.

Got to try Itasca Loonidragon part 2 (bourbon barrels) at Bricks last night and its another solid entry (2016 scotch is still my favorite). Saw some at Top Ten Blaine last week and would guess its still there and possibly at other Top Tens.

 

For sure. 2015 BA Darkness was 3 months I believe, and amazing. If they are first use barrels, it doesn't take much time. I'm thinking this year's batch, not being as bitter, may not have needed as much conditioning to get the flavors meshing well. Not a fan of the radio silence on Surly's part though, and none of my spots have heard anything when asking their rep.

Do you know if Surly is releasing any of last year's BA Darkness along with this year's like they did with the regular Darkness this past year? I never got to try the barrel aged from last year.

 

Probably a dumb question, but is there any chance Bourbon Paradise is still hanging out anywhere?

 

Darkness actually went into barrels Dec 14, 2017 so it looks like 1 month in barrels,not two. They posted a photo of them filling barrels 12/14/17 on Instagram.

 

I haven’t heard about that. I would guess no.

 

I saw some in North Loop Wine & Spirits when I was in there on Friday. There were a few bottles at the time, but not sure if they lasted to now.

 

Well if anyone knows of a place and would pick some up for me and send it to IA I'd send some fun locals back and compensate!

Talked to the distributor again & I must have misheard him. He said they got Hopslam for $51.50 a case. Sorry for the misinformation. He also said they were buying a lot back from places that sold out last year.

 

I find that if you mix your BA beer with a Bud Light or Coor Light it really enhances the barrel flavor. Anyone else experiencing this?

 

Last year's BA Darkness looks like it made an appearance at TW MG, $25 a bottle.

Just called. 2016 was last Monday. They’ll have 2017 on Monday 2/5
