I was talking to a colleague at work about the taprooms around here, and he said he was really interested in a good Pilsner. He's a fan of the Venture Pils out of Bent Paddle, and was wondering if any of the local breweries made a pils for their taproom. I couldn't recall any, but it's not one of my go-to styles so I probably wouldn't remember anyway. So... Who locally has a pilsner on in their taproom?

    I did mention Harriet.

Bauhaus makes a hoppy Pils that is solid.

Would second the one made by Fair State

East Lake Brewery at the Midtown Global Market currently has a Czech Pils on tap, haven't tried it yet tho.

Recently having stopped at Dangerous Man and Indeed, I can proclaim that they are currently pilsner free.

Second Bauhaus. I generally do not enjoy Pilsner's, but that one is top notch.

    Venture Pils is good too.

Summit Pils is always good. Bauhaus Wunderstuff is nice. Try those.

Indeed Dandy Lager, Bauhaus Wagon Party, and Bauhaus Wonderstuff, are all great drinking pilsner'ish' offerings.

I must have had a bad batch when I was at the tap room. All I could taste was diacetyl. Not pleasant.

Bauhaus and Fair State are kings. Dangerous Man has an exceldnf kolsch as well (not a Pilsner, I know). Indeed's Dandy Lager is WAY too over-hopped and citrusy to be considered "good," in the Pilsner category, I think. I also think that of Bent Paddle, though, so maybe your friend would like it.

    Another one for Bauhaus. Fantastic.

I really need to make it to Fair State again. Only have been there once.

Town Hall Brewery has a Czech Pils called Saaz Hybrid on right now. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't exactly my first beer of the night so can't say if it's a good Pilsner. Also Pitchfork in Hudson has a good German Pilsner.

I guess I must've been drinking a different Bauhaus Pils than you because it was plenty citrusy. And the cans I had were unpleasantly buttery as well. That was when it was first distributed, so maybe they've worked out their diacetyl problems and I haven't been interested in wasting my money on flawed/sub-par lagers, local or not.

From their website: "Wonderstuff delivers the clean, balanced flavors you'd expect from a Bohemian Style Pilsner, but with a powerful, citrus hop twist."

It had plenty of the noble hop flavors though too, in a balanced way. Bent Paddle and Indeed were both pure citrus, which is way off for style.

Not going to argue with about the Indeed because I thought the beer was poor in general.

As far as the Venture Pils, I guess I'll chalk it up to different taste buds. It's never come across as overly citrusy to me. They use Sterling, Saaz, German Tradition hops, nothing that should give the beer an over-the-top citrusy flavor--to me.

I have never tasted diacetyl in a Bauhaus beer. You must have a lot more sensitive palate than myself. Drinking a Wonderstuff now and not a sense of butter. They are quite hoppy to style and that may be covering up imperfections to my palate.

Bent Paddle is my favorite MN pilsner, seems like a fairly traditional pils to me with very fresh flavors. Just tried Lake Monster Calhoun Claw and it seemed good, if a little malty for my taste. I wonder when their St. Paul brewery is going to open?? I like the Bauhaus but stylistically I think of it more as an American Pale Lager, as with the Indeed Dandy Lager. More pilsners!! :-)
