I'll be traveling to Wichita, KS, next week, and then all over North Dakota the following week for work. I can compare those states to Texas on seekabrew.com and see what I can't get here, but I figured I'd consult the BA masses. What are the can't miss beers/breweries to look out for while in those states? Thanks!
Tallgrass, Free State & Hoppin Frog are 3 in Kansas off the top of my head ( if y'all get any of those good on ya! ).
We get none of those here. Tallgrass was one I had in mind, but thanks for the recommendations on the others!
Tallgrass is awesome and Free State is pretty good. Can't give you any info on North Dakota. I've never bought a 4 pack from Tallgrass that I regretted.
There are some smaller breweries to look out for. Defiance out of Hays has a nice canned session IPA.
One of the regulars at Toppling Goliath's tap room speaks very highly of Defiance, and this guy knows his beer.
Wichita is big and barren, but Goebel Liquor is pretty good. How are you traveling? Flying, driving (oh...that's a long drive!) Free State is my favorite. Tallgrass is coming on strong. High Noon is in Leavenworth and I think they can. Lawrence will have a good selection at stores. Topeka not so much for stores, but Blind Tiger is a very nice brewpub. KC...I don't know, but that might be out of the way if you're driving.
I'm flying (thank goodness). I'll be in Wichita for a few days, but will be tied up most of the time with work so I can't drive around much.
For ND it might depend on where in ND you will be. If you are in Fargo, then you are right next to MN and crossing the river can get you access to lots of different beers including Surly and others from MN. Seekabrew was way behind all of the new breweries available in ND last I checked so if you are looking for something specific, send me a PM and I can let you know if you can get it in ND or across the river in MN. For general ND beer info including local breweries where you might be (and bars or liquor stores to hit while you are there) go to http://www.fmbeer.com
Thanks for the link. I'll check it out. I'll be spending most of my time in the western half of the state (spending nights in Minot and Williston), so Fargo doesn't appear to be an option.
When you're in Wichita try to go to Wichita Brewing on the west side. I haven't been but I hear it's far better than River City in Old Town.
Yep if you are only hitting one place this it. Bring your wallet, I've never left with less than $100 of beer when I gone there...
Minot and Williston don't get a number of the beers you can get in the rest of ND from what I have heard, I personally haven't spent any time there recently. You can get Fargo Brewing products in both of those cities on tap and in cans and Minot does have a brewpub (Souris Rivier Brewing) and Williston has Williston Brewing Company that doesn't actually make their own beer but seems like a nice bar/restaurant with lots of taps so you shouldn't be too thirsty.
