With the summer releases now becoming delicious memories even though our weather grows warmer and more muggy I reached into my beer fridge tonight and grabbed one of my last two Aroma Coma's to cool down after a nice long run with my wife. This summer was the first time I got to enjoy the greatness of this brew. I was fortunate to get 12 bottles split between the two releases. I think this beer is up there with my regulars like Alpine, KRBC,Russian River, Ect. The nose is up there with Citra and Nelson for me, the whole package has been just a mind blowing revelation. Without a doubt the biggest surprise for me this year. If Drakes made this a year round offering it would most likely be in my fridge at all times. Maybe it was the lack of hype, often associated with much less quality releases, or the relative availability it was for me, whatever, it has been a joy to sip this gem on a semi regular basis this last month. I am now a Drakes convert and will now explore their other offerings.

    Cheers.....

Having one right now myself (but after cleaning up my daughters vomit:slight_frown: and putting the kids to bed by myself). Agreed very nice, but not exactly easy to pick up. Great smell and taste.

It was quite a way to inaugurate my kegerator.

My first keg went way too fast...BBQ, filled growlers for an A's game, beer tasting.

I'm waiting until my tap locks come in before I tap my second keg...damn roommates.

I'd love to have this beer year round, but understand why it's not...damn hops.
For those of you who don't know the story, this beer was created by accident. A delicious, glorious, tasty accident.

Don't sleep on drakes regular lineup, 1500 is my fav pale ale (super dry hopped), their ipa is solid and Drakonic is a great cheap imp stout. I think I liked aroma prieta more this year, I have a serious thing for new Zealand hops!

I had my first Aroma Coma two days ago and can't wait to try it again. Utterly fantastic brew.

Tried Coma & Prieta from the bottle last night, both were excellent but the Prieta took the slight edge for me - those NZ hops are something else! Oddly enough I thought they were both better out of the bottle than on tap. Drake's IPAs have a really unique body/mouthfeel to them that I love.

1500 is the best Pale Ale out there.
With such awesome hoppy beers, they really need to get on that whole bottle dating thing.

They brought in a date stamper a few months ago, but I'm not sure if it's up and running yet.

I haven't picked up any of this year's batch of Aroma Coma yet. Really need to grab some before they run out around the Bay Area.

Did any local stores get any of the Aroma Prieta? I checked out the places I suspected might get some distribution but maybe I was too late? anyone know of any still sitting in coolers in the Bay Area?

It wasn't distributed as far as I know, you should check Drake's barrel house.

I know - I should stop by - the website did mention limited distribution that was why I asked

Hmm, I thought it was Coma getting limited distribution. I haven't seen Prieta anywhere.

As I said I tried the places I suspected MIGHT get some distribution and didn't see any.

"Aroma Prieta will be released alongside Aroma Coma on July 28th with a release event here at Drake’s Barrel House (details TBA). Afterwards, both beers will be available out in the market, with Aroma Coma more widely distributed."

I've had them both side-by-side numerous times in recent weeks. The aroma of Prieta does it for me, but the Coma is a better tasting beer IMO. Blending them together gives a nice balance.

FWIW the aromas have dropped off a little bit recently - the Prieta is not nearly as fruity as it was in the first couple of weeks. I only know this because I've had each one at least once a week (usually together) and I've noticed some changes. I'm not usually as sensitive to the freshness of most beers, but for these I can definitely tell.

Haven't seen Prieta anywhere. Ramirez liquor literally just got some Aroma Coma in if anyone is still looking

Both of these have dropped off significantly since the release. Still good ipas but completely lacking that "wow factor" that they had when I first opened bottles. I think I may be going crazy as it has gotten to the point where I will not drink an ipa if it is over 3 weeks old. My palate is completely shot and ipas I used to love are not doing it for me anymore.

With all due respect and I really mean that BUT, I think you may be going crazy. A well made IPA is rocking at three weeks, ask Vinnie or Pat, two guys who probably make the best IPA 's on the planet, they'll both tell you three weeks is hitting on all cylinders. And just for the record I had another Aroma Coma last night, the nose is still amazing, and the flavor profile is fresh and brite, maybe your burnt on IPA, DIPA ?

    Cheers......
