Two new breweries opening in Ankeny, IA

    Two new breweries are opening in Ankeny.
    This, along with Number 7 Brewing Co. and the new HyVee Wine & Sprits that opens later this month (that will be managed by Blake of the Pleasant Hill HyVee), the craft beer scene is looking to be on the rise in the northern 'burbs!

    It will be in the new HyVee located at Oralabor and State St. (or...2 blocks from my house!) :slight_smile:

    Nice! I live in Cedar Rapids but I've made a few phone calls and stops at the Pleasant Hill Hy Vee and Blake was a huge help. His store now seemed to be pretty good for craft. Is the new one supposed to be even better?

    He is planning on having taps and growler fills, which will be awesome for a grocery store. Better...we'll see, but all signs point to yes.

    Not brewery news, but great Ankeny beer news.

    Blake of the new Ankeny HyVee posted this photo on Twitter yesterday. Their store opens for business on the 24th and he just received this shipment from Abu Nawas to have the shelves stocked with tons of Shelton/Twelve Percent offerings on opening day. I have a good lead on something special that may be available that has never been sold in Iowa to date. Stoked if it is true.

    Hey Nick, the distro in IA (at least Des Moines) is pretty insane lately. Saw that Prairie Bomb you had the other day.

    Yeah....select shops in Iowa got a nice new shipment of Prairie offerings last week: bomb, funky galaxy, 'merica, and puncheon. Rules!

    New American Brewing got their approval paperwork from the Tax & Trade Bureau today. Things are moving along it seems!

    The new Ankeny HyVee opened yesterday. Probably the best selection in the state.

    Yeah, Blake's selection is crazy good. Definitely the best selection in Des Moines, for sure.

    That's Omnipollo Agamemnon - Imperial Stout brewed with maple syrup. And yes... the All Day was packaged on 9/20/13, so super fresh!

    Nice Haul. Good to see Founders in cans. I plan to try ZM tomorrow at ABR as I really like the stuff Tallgrass has been producing.

    Firetrucker Brewery launched it's new website today. Looks great and has more information about their beer lineup: http://www.firetrucker.com/

    Looks like they are ramping up to open the taproom early next year. Stoked!

    Is Number 7 Brewing Co. worth a stop? I've heard a solid NO from one person, but wouldn't want to base a decision on just one person.

    Unfortunately, it's a definite no. I don't think they are doing very well either and rumor is they may close soon. Case in point that in order to last in this current beer market, you HAVE to make good beer!
