New American Brewing tweeted that they have 3 beers in fermenters right now, which they will be kegging before long: an IPA, a Porter and a Winter Seasonal called Elves Revenge. They also indicated that soon after, they will be on tap at select Ankeny and Des Moines locations and details would be coming on that, as well as their launch party!

New American's release party was at El Bait Shop last Friday night. They had their porter and IPA on tap. I didn't get a chance to make it down to try them out...but was curious if anyone else did and their thoughts.

Had Independence Pale Ale, which is an all Citra hopped brew, from New American Brewing the other night. Tasty and well balanced. Can't compete with Sue or ZD, but it has much more of a malt backing than those two beers as well.

It's currently on tap at Prairie Trail HyVee and O'Malley's in Ankeny and will also be on flowing at the new sports bar opening on the south end of town (Thunderhead).

Also, an update on Firetrucker Brewing is that they are aiming for a late June/early July opening. Really anticipating that, as the renderings of them converting the old Ankeny Fire Station into their new taproom look awesome.

Yep, I thought that Independence Pale Ale was quite tasty as well.

So Firetrucker's taproom officially opened last weekend. I haven't had the chance to make it up there yet (or try any of their beer), but hope to make it before long.

My buddy stopped by Firetrucker Sunday night and spoke highly of their Red Ale. It's brewed with five grains and five Hops he said its solid. I can't wait to get out there and try it. They bought some first class brewing equipment so hopefully they get it all dialed in and start pumping out some high quality stuff.

Steam Engine was my favorite of the three on so far. Big hop bite in the finish. IPA this week, stout next I'd heard.

My wife was there last weekend and brought me home a mini-growler of the Red. It was quite good. Not a borderline IPA like a Fixed Gear or G'Knight, but just a strong, balanced red ale that tasted extremely fresh.

She raved about their session ginger beer as well. Wanted to bring that home, but they weren't selling growlers.
