Finally got a 4pk of this, after wanting to try it for a couple of years. I saw back a few months that poor Monster, the brewery's cat for whom the beer was named, had passed on. I was wondering, was the cat named for the brew, or the brew for the cat? Does anyone know? Also, I don't see a bottled-on date, but a code 3191. Is this a Julian code (i.e. November 15th of 2011?). My friend just brought this back for me from an awesome bottle shop up in Kalamazoo, but I could hardly believe I was reading that date right; if so, Tiffany's did some prime aging for me  Any help would be much appreciated!

It should have a big "This Monster Ale Was Born In 2012" right on the front.

The beer was named for the cat.

Definitely nothing like that, either on the bottle, the label, or the 4-pk carton.

Glad you were able to get some. It's a great barleywine and underrated in my opinion. It's too bad the brewery lost it's namesake. I always liked that connection.

So it was the beer for the cat? That's awesome, if a bit sad now that he's gone.

Sir, that is indicative of the sheer level of shit day that I've had. Thanx for making me realize it's definitely bedtime. Mine's very much a 2011, and I'm quite happy with that. Thanks!
