1. I recently started kegging and I've been reading forums. I keep hear people talk about glass in tubes. My kegs were given to me by a relative that worked for Coca Cola they are pin lock kegs. Is it possible they didn't come with glass in tubes? Are the kegs functional without them? Do they look like the dip tube but glass? 2. When my regulator is hooked up to the keg does it show me the pressure inside the keg or the pressure coming out of the tank? I can't seem to get a good flow going yet. Thanks in advance for any answers
1) Never heard of glass tubes. The dip tubes should be stainless steel. 2) It shows the pressure that is being delivered to the keg. So both. The beer will take some time to reach equilibrium and the desired volumes of CO2 if you are using the set and forget method (approx 2 weeks).
Thanks - as a follow up to your answer for # 2, if the beer is overcaronated and I need the carbonation to come down is that process faster than if the beer wasn't carbonated at all?
Not necessarily. It can be somewhat of pain to correct a keg that is overcarbonated. It usually takes a few days of pulling the relief valve a few seconds each day (of course the keg should not be connected to the gas tank at this point).
you can de-gas a beer in minutes. shake the keg, pull the relief valve, rinse, and repeat. Then apply co2 and carbonate as you wish.
