I think Two Roads does do a weekly special cask tapping (Thursdays?), but I agree wholeheartedly with your complaint about their tasting room pricing. $6/pint is outrageous for beers brewed right there, their growler prices are similarly on the high end, and they charge for samples. I certainly have no plans to visit again any time soon.

:grimacing: 6 bucks a pint at the brewery!! I can get a 750 growler of Julius for 7 bucks at Tree House. I'm pretty sure they're not pouring anything as good.

I wasn't going to take it here, but this irks me too. I can understand charging for a sampler tray if you must, and the samplers are 4 or 5oz's each, but they charge you if you want a 1 or 2oz taste just to see if you want to pay for their overprices pints. I'm pretty sure they would charge you for air in there if they could.

I don't dislike any of their beers, none have really stood out either. What I really don't like is their business strategy. I know every brewery is doing this to earn a nice living, but i just get the feeling like their only mission is to make a ton of money and grab a ton of market share. Most of everything they have done has rubbed me the wrong way. The release of Igor... there was just something about a brand new brewery having a ticketed event for a limited release beer (one that had never been released before) and then charging $20 a bomber for it. Charging for samples - even if you are purchasing a growler, $6 pints in the tasting room, having reps in local package stores bragging about how they are the largest brewer in CT. How about a little less talk and advertising and more time spent brewing something that will be a stand out beer.

I know that most of how i feel is just because I am so spoiled by having NEBCO around, but i am not sure i would feel that much differently even if we didn't have them. Really, Sandman sums up my feelings exactly in the above post:

Ha I love how these 2 Roads threads just turn into shit talking their brews/prices/motives. Really, I do! So, to stay on (off) topic, I just paid too much for a growler of Roadsmary's Baby, and it sucked dick.

roadsmary's baby was indeed awful, even by awful pumpkin beer standards, never been to the brewery, i live in new haven sooo... nebco. but charging for samples is never cool.

Ha, in an ironic twist of fate, I shared a bottle with 2 people in this thread on Saturday, and I didn't hate it! Plot twist!

Haha EXACTLY what I was gonna say! Reminds me of topics from Coffee Talk with Linda Richman. Roadsmary's Baby barrel aged pumpkin ale is neither barrel aged or pumpkin. Discuss

I picked up a single today at lunchtime. Looks like this is one I'll stick in the back of the fridge for a couple of months to mellow out the spices.

Don't get so eager and you won't feel that let down once you do try it.

To the people saying its too 'spicy' with pumpkin pie spices, do you actually like pumpkin beers? And if so which ones are your favorites? I may be going out on a ledge, but I think it may be more about hating the style than hating the quality of the beer. (Again I know taste are subjective, just want yo know how I have such a vastly different take on this beer... And FYI I love this style of beer).

not a big pumpkin beer fan overall, just the usual harpoon ufo pumpkin, post road, weyerbacher, those are fine if im in the mood, but this tasted more like stone 12-12-12 (which was essentially a yuletide spice rack put in a bottle) and less a pumpkin beer than i expected. if you like this, youd probably like stone 12-12-12, but not necessarily the ones i mentioned.

I disagree, I love pumpkin beers (Pumking, Elysians, Good Gourd). No one said this was too spicy with pumpkin pie spices. I got no problem with spices, but this didn't taste like pumpkin at all. Total spice bomb like braugon said. I just hate when beers don't taste at all as advertised. I got no barrel and no pumpkin from a barrel aged pumpkin beer.

Naa I don't like the Post Road and UFO and I like Weyerbacher (had it side by side with this blind and chose the Two Roads slightly.) But like you said you don't really like the style and I do.

I think it's a pretty poorly kept secret that they keep beer in the barrel for the least amount of time possible to still be able to legally call it "barrel aged".

What is the legal amount of time?
