yamar68's "Useless Talent LIF"

This LIF is designed to encourage and congratulate what would normally be seen as an utterly useless talent. Most people have some pointless trick up their sleeve that they haven't shared with anyone since the 2nd grade talent show and I think it's time we revisit these little gems. Whether it's burping the ABC's, speed cup stacking, break dancing or shredding a kazoo solo - just be creative and give it your all. Record a video of your Useless Talent and post it in the LIF thread.

Entries will be accepted for a full two weeks to give most BA's a chance to share their talent. Once we reach the deadline, I'll pick my favorite 3 or 4 and post them in a new thread containing a poll feature. At that point, I'll let the masses vote for their favorite Useless Talent on BeerAdvocate!

The winner will receive a care package from myself containing a number of beers from outside of their distribution area. The Abyss, Kuhnhenn BA 4D, Central Waters BA Stout, Surly Darkness, these are just a few that come to mind - plus the mandatory 4 pack of Surly Furious of course.

Magic Hat Lif.
I have a bottle cap (from magichat) with a saying in it. You're challenge is to come up with the saying correctly (this could be seen as a Hangman game where the hints (when i give them out, can be letters here and there.) Once the correct saying has been found, the B.A who finds it must post a picture of himself holding/touching the thing that is the last word of the saying.

Winner gets qc goodies.

God, I want this to happen just to have a reason to drink a Aww Jeah through a straw, then bong a Double Crooked Tree, then drink a beer from a luge poured from the roof of a two story house. AND doing all a quickly as possible. Then puke.

 

I will give my idea(s) had I won the TMTOBA

The first idea would have been a troll version. I would have generated a generic troll account with a user name that is easy to mistake, and then encouraged trolling throughout the thread. But on top of that, I would have added a penalty for posting in response to the troll (post don't count for an hour, 3 strikes out, etc).

Second idea would have been a Simon says. This would require numerous post throughout the day. At the end the people with the most correct (minus incorrect) would move to the next round.

Now combine them: After coming up with these ideas I thought it would be great to combine them and have a Troll says. That way it would be a lot harder than just checking for a simple phrase.

 

My wife and I just finished re-watching the entire 5 seasons of Alias so I started putting together a Beer and Alias themed scavenger hunt. It would combine online and offline challenges, all connected back to the TV show but able to be solved even by people that have never seen the show. Winner gets beer, and maybe some Alias related schwag.

 

The Birthday LIF:

13 entries, 12 people each having a birthday on their unique month, 1 "Keeper of the Dates".

• Everyone submits their birthdays to the Keeper with 3 personalized hints for the actual date of their birthday.
• The keeper posts the hints, tracks the actual dates, and monthly results.
• Each of the 12 use the hints to figure out the other 11s birthdays.
• Each month, the 12 send 1500ml (or agreed upon) amount of beer to who they believe has a birthday this month.
• Nothing is discussed regarding what was sent to who until the first day of the next month. When a beer is sent and received, the Keeper is notified.
• On the final day of each month anyone who received that month posts their haul and weather or not it was their birthday, as well as the actual person who had a birthday that month.
• If a personal guesses correctly, the receiver must send 3000ml (or agreed upon) back to all who were correct.

Optional:

• After each month (due to knowing who is actually left to choose) the amount of beer increases.
• A letter noting the exact day of birthday is sent with each package. Anyone who guess within 5 days (or agreed upon) received additional ml of beer from the receiver.
• As a good measure, beer is sent to the keeper for their time spent monitoring, or if certain conditions are met during the course of the year, beer is sent to the keeper.
• The requirement for the beer being sent can be changed to meet a theme, but should fall under "wants".
• Since higher levels of activity would happen for those who have later-in-the-year birthdays, additional conditions and requirement could be applied, such as: increased amounts for correct answers or requirements for those who received "in error" to send beer out.

Since the requirement for this is to actually make the LIF happen, I could volunteer to be the keeper for the first year.

I cant think of anything good either. So my idea for my followup LIF would be to have people post their LIF ideas and ask them to carry them out afterwards. Oh wait..

My LIF involves people guessing at when the BeerAdvocate integration will (finally) happen.

This, no doubt, could go on for awhile and therefore would garner many hundreds (thousands?) of guesses from many hundred (thousands?) of different BAs. The beauty of this is that it would always stay near the top of the "IT Forward" thread page, in turn being a constant reminder to the Bros that we haven't forgotten about the integration.

Guesses would need to be in a date and time format. Example: August 15th, 2012 12:32pm EST and BAs will be able to post a new guess once per week.
