    Funny, but I agree with FUNKPhD and we are right here. BCBS is way too much bourbon and sweetness, completely drowning out the base beer instead of enhancing it. Doe anyone know what the base beer really tastes like?

    how can you say it drowns out the base beer instead of enhancing it, then in the next sentence state you have no idea what the base beer tastes like?

    that makes zero sense.

    Because it has to have a base beer, doesn't it? It is supposed to be a stout, isn't it? It was hyperbole to say 'does anyone really know what the base beer really tastes like'. Duh! :rolling_eyes: I guess drunk, mental midgets can't catch that.

    Night Stalker is the BCBS base beer... the only difference being that NS is dry hopped.

    I had the chance to have the un-aged base beer during a tour there, it is very very good. Just really fun doing a side by side with bcbs to really see how the barrel imparts flavor.

    I didn't say I had no idea what the beer tastes like, I said "Does anyone know what the base beer really tastes like?" For those that are dense, that is meant as hyperbole.

    I happen to have had the base beer from a BA tasting in March 2011. Here are the notes from that:

    Bottle someone shared at the March BA Tasting. Pours black with a light-brown head. Nose is of roast malt and chocolate. Taste is of chocolate and malt. Mouthfeel is medium with a tongue-coating effect. Alcohol noticed

    I don't recognize the base beer from it being drowned out by bourbon in BCBS. There, is that more to something you can comprehend?

    Well, we are on beer advocate, you know. People are bound to have strong opinions.

    As far as BCBS goes, you can say that the barrel is supposed to enhance and add on to the base beer, but that doesn't make it true. I happen to think that the barrels do much more than accentuate the base beer with new flavors--I think that the barrel transforms the base beer into something else, something new and entirely superior.

    For what it's worth, if you've had Night Stalker, you can taste it in BCBS. You do need to know what to look for, though.

    Yeah... BB6 came and went a lot quicker than BB5 in Austin.

    I >only< managed to get 6 bottles, lol. If you really need one, send me a BM and I can probably hook you up with where to buy one.

    EDIT: Oh crap... I am 1 BB off... I was speaking about BB5. I don't think BB6 is out yet.
