I moved here this past August, so I haven't been here for the spring yet. I enjoy a good Maibock during these months. Besides Rogue Dead Guy, are there any available here in TX? Cheers!
You may be able to find Hofbrau Maibock if you look hard enough. Aside from that, I'm drawing blanks.
Bucking Bock is the current seasonal for Rahr's, which they refer to as a "German-Style Spring Bock". I'm curious as to what Live Oak would do with a Maibock. They haven't made one that I'm aware of.
Franconia made a good Maibock. I have not seen it in a while, but Houston does not get a ton of Franconia.
I've heard Rahr people refer to it as a maibock. Otherwise it's pretty much that and Franconia as far as I'm aware.
It might be sold in bottle but it's definitely available at the restaurants in Dallas on 75 and Plano wherever it is in Plano. They had a tapping party last week and they were serving it on gravity. They do brew it on site, which I did not know. I thought the tanks were for show but one of the brewers was pouring and took me in the brewhouse and convinced me otherwise.
And it doesn't taste at all like a true maibock. Not a bad beer, but it tastes like a hoppy pale ale.
That Hoppy Bock is a lot better than I thought it would be. Saint Arnold's Spring Bock, does that qualify? Sprecher makes a decent Mai Bock.
Capital Brewing and Smuttynose make the best U.S. Maibocks I've tasted.I haven't had the Sprecher. I don't think that the SA Spring Bock is a Maibock. It's not classified as such here.
