Hopefully this works! Uerige made an animated film from what I can tell in honor of their 150th anniversary. They posted it on their Facebook page and I thought it might be fun to share here. My German is not good enough to understand the whole poem, but you'll get the idea. Good translation of what it's like to spend a little while in their pub. If my link doesn't work, be sure to check out their FB page.

(Herr Burgess, a little required research for you).

I really gotta get back there.

    Cheers!

Wunderbar. Do they really have the counter on the tapper and do they really let you drink on the street?

Gut Gott -- this is one long video!

    Hey Ron -- wooden casks!

As far as I know the counter is fake (or animated) and they probably do let you drink on the street...this is Deutschland after all, and I remember from my trip a few tables set up outside (in January!). And yes, wooden casks. I think Brauerei im Füchschen also has the wooden casks. Don't know about the other places, as I didn't get to them.

Man, Germans sure do love those rhyming tributes...heard a ton of them at my wedding. Albeit not in Düsseldorfer Platt! Awesome video, thanks for posting. Can't wait to get there. FYI, the brewmaster at Olde Mecklenburg in Charlotte lived in Duesseldorf and models his Copper Altbier on Schluessel Alt (with some characteristics from Schumacher). He says he truly fell in love with the style while drinking outside of Schluessel on a balmy summer night, so, yea, the drinking on the street is apparently common and accepted.

Yes the beer comes from the wooden casks. Pitch lined?

Drinking on the street, well yes as it is the Fussganger Zone and only the occasional taxi cab creeps through the crowd. Duesseldorf is not called the world's longest bar for nothing.

    Now to watch the video.

The brewing shown is Monty Pythonesque, I think most can figure out the real thing is nothing like that.

In the summer you can even sit at table across the street. There is a refrigerated trailer they have the beer in for the day, and a kiosk to pour it from for the kobes. It is called the "Das Draussenministerium von Uerige", the Minsitry of the Outside from Uerige.

There was one guy who would whistle loudly when rolling the barrel through the crowd. He come through often.

When there is a good crowd and the barrel is tapped, the glasses are put through as fast as they fill and the tap is never turned off!

In a way this reminds me of the film 'The Polar Express'. And no less as magical or as Christmasesque. Great to see that it does Uerige justice. Awesome.
