I'm totally screwed aren't I? First infection and I'm kinda freaking out (inb4 RDWHAHB). Smell is slightly strange and taste seems okay. What should I do?

Need more info about what the beer is, how long it has been in fermenter, airlock was dry, IBU, etc

Yeah, tell us everything, including where you suspect your sanitation might have gone awry if you have a thought about it. If you think your sanitation was impeccable then maybe you're okay. But more info is needed to give us a chance to consider what you've got. So far, the pic is not so bad looking. To me, it kind of looks like the start of krausen build-up. Have the bubbles grown since your post? How long has it been in the fermentor? Did you notice any krausen yet?

Yes, that looks like the beginning of a pellicle. Give it a couple more weeks and you will have something that looks like this:

At least you didn't use a ^^^^Homer bucket^^^^ to ferment your beer.

Keep in mind that taste is what it's all about! If it tastes good, you may want to save some of that for your next batch :0)

    Hrmm.. Looks interesting.

What style of beer was it.. You could have a tasty sour/wild ale on your hands.

When the time is right ... rack under the crud and you may be able to salvage the batch.
