Whatever came after the Jarl would be a hop let down
so I threw in an outsider next Wadworth Red, White & Brew - 99p from B&Ms

quite malty no where new the calibre and class of the ale before but above average and worth a try.

    Hawkshead Red
    A pleasant enough bitter
but not the usual strawberry liquorice element
that is found with most hoppy U.S. inspired Red/amber Ales

Very much glad I didn't pay Specialist beer shop £ for it

I need something a bit boozy to finish the night

I am going to avoid any Christmas day disappointment and open the Shepherd neame Christmas Ale Now

Yeah, like I thought barely suppable flimsy flim flam crud

almost enough to convince Clarence it isn't a wonderful life

Good old fashioned "brown bitter" this lunchtime. Began with Theakston's Bitter, 3.8% which is always in outstanding nick at the Royal Oak in East Bridgford. So are all the other beers but I find this one quite a revelation in a brew I'd long considered dull.Lots of lots of individual flavours detected , not all that highly flavoured but surprisingly complex. On to another Royal Oak, this time in Car Colston where the beer is always, unfailingly, excellently kept.Began with the Brakspear's Bitter, then Marston's EPA and finished off with a Marston's Bitter , the one with the Burton Snatch. All beers were a credit to their brewers and to the pub.

"Hey look, mister. We sell dull beers in here for men who want to get disappointed fast, and we don't need any characterful craft beers around to give the joint "atmosphere". Is that clear, or do I have to slip you a Bishops Finger for a convincer?"

Going even further North (does Berwick have a brewery
if not this must be one of the most furthest North of England)
    with Derwent's Carlisle State Bitter

Hmmmm as much as I like history and beer
I guess sometimes the two shouldn't always meet.
A product of government control and rationing

Interesting but more for the history than the supping.

The Ship Inn at Low Newton By The Sea,
    Anarchy Brew Co in Morpeth
In fact the Toon is slightly further north than Carlisle so Tynebank, Hadrian and Border etc
The North East goes a fair way up.

    Knowledge is power!

:grinning: What were you drinking last night?

Had my work Xmas lunch yesterday, followed by a session in Brigantes on Micklegate. Lovely place - I regret never paying it a visit before. My first pint was Black Sheep's Imperial Russian stout.....

Tonight I'm easing into it with a Sunbeam Ales' Extra Special.

    Just back from work
had to stop at Tesco for cat food noticed a step in the booze aisle so fished out the last
    'hidden' at back Courage RIS

    Tomorrow is the works do
it's at some cocktail bar, so fitting in with me drinking in places that don't suit me
it seems the perfect time to visit Brewdog Manchester before going to celebrate with my contemporary employees.

But I need a beer tonight.

Bottle of Derwent Auld Kendal an olde fashioned winter warmer apparently.
