What did you think of it? The Pistonhead range here in Sweden (made by macro brewery Spendrups) uses German hops for bittering and American hops for dry-hopping. One of them is even named Kustom Lager just as the UK version only it's using American hops (Amarillo and Cascade), whilst the Pistonhead sold in the UK only uses German hops throughout. I find this to be rather strange, since one would think that a dry-hopped macro lager would stand out alot more, and offer people more reason to buy it. Maybe they are just banking on the skull design and figure it will sell based on that.

The dry-hopped versions they sell here are really tasty and affordable alternatives to craft beer if you want American hops in your beer.

That seems to be the reason it sells that I've seen. It looks edgy to the craft hipsters who see something in a can from Sweden with no obvious big company connections or rather anything to indicate it might not be good taste-wise.

Well that is a great shame then
now I am more from the real ale camp than the craft beer scene and my first choice of beers being pretty much dark ones it was facing a tough crowd and in all honesty I find it passable
certainly no worse than say Pilsner Urquell but not enough taste for me personally.

and also looks like Ed Hardy for the chavs.
I got it from Tescos, now about 70% of their beer buying customers are UK lager drinkers
for whom to half of which anything hoppier than Carling, Carlsberg, Stella or Foster's is unpalatable to the point of being undrinkable
which basically covers any beer with any hint of any taste.

Now I've been pulled up about poking fun at this type of beer drinker
but let me put it into some kind of context I worked in a social club and remember offering such like drinker above a free Czech Budvar instead of him paying for a US Bud, it was returned with a sip out of it with comments that it tasted funny and he wanted to buy his regular.

So I think it will sell, but not massively and I won't be buying again (though maybe for a gift for my German Pils drinking friend)

However if I would give the original US hopped version a go.

That's the answer I was expecting to be honest :stuck_out_tongue:. I'm personally a big fan of pale lager beer (dry and bitter German pilsner as well as maltier helles lager and Export strenght lager beers), and I think Spendrups brews alot of tasty lager beers in various styles (if you want a dry hoppy German pilsner with 37 IBU they got you covered, if you want a malty lager beer with a 23IBU they got you covered, if you want a hoppy pale lager beer with American hops they got you covered).

I realize that most of their conventional German-style lager beers will seem underwhelming if you are used to drinking American craft beer. But if you are used to drinking real ale, which you seem to be, then I think it would be possible for someone to acknowledge the degree of quality that these beers possess, and the fact that you find it passable is in line with this expectation. It's not often that I get to hear an outsider's take on the beer brewed in Sweden, and so I appreciate your input.

At home now so been on the home made creations, including
    Bay leaf ale
    Xmas porter
    damson wine
    sloe gin
and several versions of the cider dad made from the apples from our own tree, one's dry and 11%, the others sweet and 13%, and neither taste alcoholic really

With luck my liver might just hold out until boxing day

Brewdog was every I hoped it wouldn't be
horribly set out with style over substance decor
A concrete bar which I had to stay at as every seat in the place was taken by hipsters
and not a handpump insight (Brewdog may have abandoned cask but what about guest beers?)

I had Hobo Pop which was crammed full of hops
but not much else and with the keg serving was too cold for me and far too fizzy
    and Four fifty a pint???

My German Pils loving friend arrived and he seemed not particularly impressed with the Fake Lager
so since I was half a pint in had 1/3 of a pint of Stone's Vertical Epic that I think suffered with the heavy handed co2 but at £3.95 for an American 9% beer it seemed a little more value for money.

We decided that as it was rammed and neither of us were digging the scene to move on
with it the rain pouring down the nearby Spoons seemed welcoming enough, where I was glad to get some cask in the form of Acorn's 11th Noel. Spoon's to was standing room only and filled with office parties so we decided to have a quick stein at the Bier Keller before I went on to my work's do.

Yeah, I'm sort of getting tired of these licence to tick deliberately hip crafty places. Even if it leaves me exposed to be mocked by marquis.

went to my local hotel for a couple of pints for a change, first time I've been in there for a couple of years as the selection used to be gash and it was expensive. Still gash, still expensive

Stella, Carling, Carling, Bud Lite, Best, Guinness, worthington's. Someone there needs to get with the program. It's an independent hotel too, so I doubt they'll have a big contract

The only time I see bud lite in the UK is in hotels
