The Bruery Oatmeal Stout , bland in the extreme. 5.5% ABV and tasteless? Apart from a hint of vanilla there was nothing there and I didn't even finish the pint.
Wychwood Piledriver, much tastier and refeshing and then Blue Monkey PG Sips which was rather nice.

Mantle Brewery Rock Steady - I can see good things happening for this brewery with an interesting golden ale like this. Full bodied, tasty and just the right levels of hops - fruity, refreshing and bitter.

Yep, they came from nowhere and first appeared at the Nottingham Beer Festival a few years ago. They sold 19 firkins of their basic bitter at the festival and with the best part of 1000 others to choose from that's pretty remarkable. They have a brewery tap , the Organ Grinder , in Nottingham. Plus a couple of others.

Local independent Wine shop (Corks out) have just really expanded their beer selection
sadly Wincle is out (major downer) Tatton stay in (Fairly indifferent)
they now also have Thornbridge (Feel like they don't really excel at bottled beer + readily available in Waitrose)
Cheshire Brewhouse (fave local micro of mine)
Red Willow (another brewhouse quite easy to get hold of round these here parts)
Beavertown & Kernel are on the shelves also
and new to me beers by Rocky Head & Brew by Numbers
add to this Tickety Brew adding a stout to their little collection
my trip there to get six for the price of five
    turned into twelve for ten

poured myself a bottle of Cheshire Brewhouse DBA
    which says
Brewed in homage to the classic strong pale ales
    from Burton on Trent

Me & my mate Mike in Nottingham about 20 years ago in a pub before seeing The Alarm.....

He says he'll get me a pint if I down it in one
he brings over a pint of Shipstones, I down it in one.
He asks if I can do it with Guinness, he brings over a pint, I down it in one
H says I can't down another pint of beer in one
I contest this, he brings over a pint, I take on sip and spit it out
    FUCKING KALIBER!

Day 1 of the St. Davids day beer festival down at the taphouse yesterday, rammed with drinkers but an impressive selection of Welsh beers. Tried the new Tiny Rebel number, the Extra Light Pale Ale, made with a prototype extra pale malt. Very tasty and full bodied albeit not much paler than the other pale ales.

Also had Celt Experience Brigid Fire (Smoked Rye IPA) which was really nice, and Mantle Dark Heart. Finishing with a cheeky dram of Dalmore King Alexander III whisky.

Plus I'm enjoying how the Chelmsford winter beer festival this year was held in the local school, King Edward VI Grammar School.

    Kegs for short.
