    Was in Edinburgh earlier today

    @Zimbo

What the FUCK have they done to the Sheeps Heid? I know it was never the best pub around, but when I lived in Northfield drive it was a bit of a haven. Went back today out of nostalgia and it has been cuntified.

Some good old fashioned stuff this weekend.
Yesterday it was Young's Special followed by St.Austell Tribute and today I pinched the wife's MG and enjoyed the sunshine going to the Rose & Crown in Hose for Bateman's Black and White mild and Tetley's Bitter. Also had a sample of Adnam's Fat Sprat , pleasant enough but so like a host of other pale beers that I couldn't be bothered with it.It's supposed to have Golding's in it , I never noticed because of the grapefruit.

Great night at Stockport beer festival, couldn't too crazy as had work today

Last day of May and managed to try three milds
Fool Hardy (new Stockport brewer and pub) which was like a second run of stout
Rudgate's Ruby mild which was spot on
and Prospect Brewery's Dynamild which to be honest failed to ignite.

Also sampled Elixir Brew co's Sevy's Saison (Fairly good)
    Leatherbritches' Bespoke (fairly dull)
Hopcraft Brewing's Oceanic (really hoppy, really good)
Conwy's Dobbins Yakima Grande Hoppy Pale Ale (above average but not worthy of Brendan's great name)

was just about to leave when found a big wedge of free beer tokens
I showed remarkable restraint & only had one more beer
Alchemy's Black Aye PA which was great stuff.

I was in work today bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Ha ha! Sorry couldn't help but laugh. You hit the nail on the head there. Don't you know that it's been 'beautifully restored' and that you get free champagne on your birthday as you eat 'alfresco'? Come on, get with the programme!!

'Cuntified'? Yep. But its part and parcel posh with what's going on throughout our capital city. I call it 'Edinbuggered'. And its a major reason why I continue to swear by the Volunteer Arms 'Staggs' in Musselburgh.

I might have been slightly inebriated when I wrote that :flushed:

But yes, it's been gastro'd up to its eyeballs and beyond .

Edinburgh was great anyway, it had been too long since I was last there

The thing about Geuze is it's a bit of an acquired taste
To me the flavour it's like a cross between scrumpy and Humbrol enamel paints that you used to get for airfix models
I think I'm enjoying it lol

Bit of an American influenced weekend. Goose Island IPA, Brewdog Punk IPA and 2 Stone IPA's on Friday, Saturday had a Brew By Numbers 02|08 Golden Ale and a Brewdog Dead Pony Club. On Sunday had a Stone Levitation Ale (I really recommend this beer if you can get it! It's a really good Red Ale at 4.4%) and Stone Pale Ale.

All in all a good weekend!

@Zimbo What did you think of the Wells/Dogfish DNA? I had a couple of bottles a month or so back and it was a bit disappointing!

    Oakham Davy Jones

A seasonal I assume from Oakham, more malt flavours here than usual but with that typical pithy bitterness oakham are known for. A nice pint indeed. It's like an amplified ESB I suppose

    Hawkshead Dry Stone Stout

Excellent stout from the ever good Hawkshead brewery, their NZPA was calling me but I thought to try this instead. Bags of flavour, great mouthfeel, shame I couldn't have another.

    Disappointed?
    I was downright insulted!
Have been trying to track down a imported unaltered bottle of the original 60 minutes ipa so I can grasp what an abomination the stuff Wells added is.
If you had told me when I started drinking beer nearly twenty five years ago that adding British beer to American would diminish the flavour, I would have never believed you.

To one of my favourite pubs of all time (my regular in the 60s and better now) the Wheel Inn, Branston.Lovely pub in a stone built village which would make an inhabitant of the Cotswolds green with envy.
Began with good old Bateman's XB (not my favourite bitter but very serviceable) then had some Brewster's Aromantica , a pale ale at 4.2% ABV. Very nice and well brewed but the same sort of taste I'm finding in so many beers these days.Brewsters were about the first UK brewery to use lots of US style hops in their beers , thankfully not in all of them.
