Kernel's Mosaic pale ale - superb.....

It did indeed; now I've got to drink it :grinning:

Kernel Pale Centennial Mosaic US 366. Wonderful! Pouring the sediment from the bottom into the head a leaves brown stain in the foam. That's how real this beer is. Followed this with a DAB Dortmunder Export Beer. This was a good follow up to the Kernel as a German Export or Pils touches totally different parts of the pallet and is, surprisingly, not destroyed by the glory of the Kernel Pale Ale!

Victory Hop Devil. Nice, but lacking in depth after the Kernel Mosaic....

The new 'Beer Karma system' no longer based on reviews & scores etc
but now a 'target' system so I've rated 820 odd beers
my score wont increase on beers scored or reviewed 1000.

Though I do now have the official title of 'Beer Advocate' now
and to think they said I would achieve nothing.

Popped just round the corner to my local; began with St Austell Tribute simply because I like it ,perhaps it's my favourite "found everywhere" beer. Sara's (Brewster's) Aromantica was on so I had a pint , very nice. Not as one dimensional as so many West Coast hopped beers, there was considerable complexity and as usual with her brews it boxed above its weight.

    homebrew night for me

strong english ale with heaps of challenger - lovely, great marmalade flavour and bitterness from challenger, one of the great hops imo

pale ale with lots of US hops - great lemony flavour from this, horrible clarity as I forgot to fine it in the copper

Belgians strong ale - far too much banana but I finished it like a trooper.

mixed bag all in all, but got nicely drunk off them

Finished off some home brewed bitter made with our small but useable garden harvest of Goldings hops. Really tasty actually, that fresh hop profile but less pronounced than the big hitting US varieties. Worked well with the tasty malts.

Back to the Tap House festival for a few swift halves before meeting friends for dinner.
Tiny Rebel the Full Nelson Chardonnay Barrel aged - very good, gave it a crisp, dry finish
Tiny Rebel Scotch Bonnet Stout - also good, despite heat not being a favourite of mine, the chilli was worked in well, making an subtle but significant presence in the aftertaste
Magic Rock Clown Juice - tidy
Alechemy Dr. Rudi - also tidy

To Øl's Black Maria (Chardonnay Barrel). Lovely - this is rich and roasty with good hop presence and a subtle vinous quality. Very nicely balanced.....

Finishing off the evening with a Tempest In the Dark We Live Imperial Black IPA - about 7 months old I think but still rather good.

Indeed. They're much more subtle than whisky or bourbon barrels, but can add fantastic depth to hoppy brews. The fruitiness they add with the right hop varieties can be sublime.....

In other news - Victory's Dirt Wolf :grinning:

    Sunny and warm so when Mrs.Marquis wasn't looking I pinched her MG and slipped over to the Marquis of Granby.Now 99% of the time they have a mild but this was the 1% , the only dark beer was the excellent Ashover Brewery's Coffin Lane Stout. Not a driving beer so I settled for Brewster's Hophead. I like what BA St.James's Gate wrote about it;
"Bright gold with lumpy froth and clumpy lace. Mad grapefruity nose with maybe a speck of fresh croissant underneath.
Unripe honeydew and breadcrumbs, then lean, bitter citrus hops.
Grapefruit Slushie comeback and dry linger. Light, crisp, clingy.
One of the new order of hoppy British blondes. A miracle at 3.6%. America, are you listening?"

(Actually it dates back to the 1990s but Brewster's have always been ahead of the game)
Being there and being me I had to follow up with a glass of Marquis , a lovely good old fashioned brown bitter.

Does anybody know if the Morrison's M signature range
is any better than the utterly pathetic & tasteless Tesco Signature range?
