Yeah I'm not really a fan of the regular one, or indeed their Lager boy rhetoric.

Back in Sheffield yesterday to judge at SIBA BeerX, some very nice beers and some that make you wonder whether brewers know how to identify faults.

A couple days late due to being busy, but had a banner weekend having the opportunity to visit Buxton Brewery on a road trip for "work." Enjoyed lunch and Trolltunga sour IPA. Also bought some Yellow Belly, which I'll have to post on when I have it. Since I was i the area, picked up several Thornbridge bottles as well, but the brewery itself was closed.

    Box steam 1914 ale
On cask I bet it's pretty good but ironically bottled it tastes like a recreation of the muted beers brewed to rationing and state sanctions during the first world war

I had a Coedo Beniaka (Pumpkin/Yam Ale) from Japan, not so much yam, but pleasant. I did rather enjoy the Electric Bear Cherry Blackout. Such a great beer. It's sweet, then chocolate, then sweet again.

Hit the Bermondsey Mile today. It was a bit chilly, but a fun day. First stop was Partizan, had the Raspberry/Lemon Saison and the Stout. Both were very good. Then stopped at Brew By No, had the 55|01 Double IPA and 09|02 Brown Ale, again both were excellent. Then stopped at Anspach and Hobday and had a flight, cream ale, smoked brown, and red wine barrel aged porter. I wasn't thrilled by any of them. Finally stopped at Southwark and had the XXX Porter. It was alright. Purchased a RIS from Southwark and hope it turns out ok.

Beavertown Skull King - it's really very nice. Hoppy, full, dank. Alcohol very well hidden. Delicious stuff.

    Brewery snap

Nipped into oddbins to see what their selection was like, very small in that particular shop but pretty decent. Got Neck Oil, Gammaray and 8 ball rye ipa, all drunk now. Also a bottle of Fyne Ragnarok which I will save for tomorrow, the cask version is great but I've not tried the bottled one.

Williams Bros. - Joker DIPA, really like this beer, marmalade flavour, smooth mouthfeel and you'd never think it was 8.3%,
BrewDog - Jack Hammer, I do genuinely like some BrewDog beers, but this is just too hoppy. Stop blowing things up and stop overhopping your beer.

Yeah the Oddbins in Kew is my go to for the Beavertown regulars. I had a Neck Oil on the train the other day, which I actually enjoyed as I was really thirsty.

Fitted in some beer with a quick visit to the Pepys exhibition at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. A can of Sixpoint Bengali at 'spoons was disappointing but halves of Heavy Industry Freak Chick and Magic Rock / Siren Ginspired (G&T IPA) at Tap East were very good.

Trying Rheinbacher Pilsner while I cook my dinner. Crap euro lager

The last time I had Jackhammer it lacked bitterness, was a bit surprising. I think it must have been a dud one. I usually quite like it

Briefly off topic - how was the Pepys exhibition? I'm quite keen but pretty frugal when it comes to paying for museums.... I'm sure they've changed the Bengali as well, I may be being stupid but I have convinced myself the stubby cans tasted better.
