Saw Cannonball in Valhalla's Goat and thought about getting one, have I done wrong?

    It's excellent

Choice with the curry was cobra or tennents, I think some restaurants still need to up their choices a bit

Cobra is great with a curry to be fair.

I do still like a bog standard lager with a curry, but I'd still like to see a bit more variety.

Weihenstephaner Dunkel while I cook up a lovely roast beef. Not as good as I remember. still very tasty of course

i'm visiting from the US and had the pleasure of coming across this beer today! dropped into the 'Love Beer Festival' and was extremely impressed. silky smooth and crushable, never thought blood orange could be used to perfection like this. easily my favorite beer of the trip, thus far.

other beers: very much enjoyed Brixton's Pacific APA and the Fourpure Juicebox IPA. i've had a number of excellent real ales (young's bitter and brakspear bitter have stuck out), as well as a number of nice Kernel IPAs. really nice beer scene in London, it's been a pleasure visiting.

Strange, many people have written negatively about the bloody ell, saying it's not as good as before.

Doctor Brew Single Hop Enigma IPA

Another beauty of a single hop ale from the Polish Doctor. Embarrassingly one sided against Lil Beauty containing a football team of hops but with absolutely no firepower.

Drank some Omnipollo 666 Black Mango IPA which was great, creamy and light with loads of fruit.
Also a perla Pils can (budgeting this week so trying some of the cheap Polish Lager cans you can get) - eh.

Going to be visiting England in the middle of June. Staying one week in Carsington, Matlock and then one week on the Isle of Man. Any helpful tips regarding bars, beers, and activities would be very welcome! thanks!

Are you at the TT ?

I can't give you any recommendations as I don't know the areas but Carsington/Matlock seem to be close to Thornbridge and Buxton so keep an eye out for their beers  Buxton especially

I'm very unfamiliar with the area. What is TT? It does appear that where we are staying, Swiers Farm, is about 25 minutes to each of those breweries. They sound like good places to visit? On the Isle of Man we are staying at Knockaloe bed and breakfast.....

The Isle of Man TT race is in the first two weeks of June I think, its a very famous motorbike road race and I imagine the whole place would be buzzing during it, I've never been though. If you are there after it then it might be a bit less hectic

I don;t know if they have onsite tap rooms, british breweries tend not to have them
Looks like thornbridge owns a bunch of pubs though. having to link the cached page as the proper one isn't loading for me

and it seems buxton do have a tap too. I'd definitely check it out if you are in Buxton at all, I would

I've never been to Matlock but it's about 20 miles from Buxton. Buxton itself is worth visiting, the brewery tap house is awesome and you can buy bottles to take away too, you should be ale to pick up bottles of yellow belly and also they sometimes have Cantillon in. There's more traditional ale pubs around too.

Thornbridge is in bakewell, which will be closer. You can book advance tours during the day and it's nice to get brewery fresh beer and also bottles to go, but it's sort of in the middle of nowhere and I think you'd need a car to get there. They have the occasional event on in the evening but there didn't seem to be any other drinking establishments anywhere nearby so I wouldn't plan a day there based around beer. You'd find their beer easily enough all over the country.

thanks for the tips! The Isle of Man trip is 6/17-6/24, so it sounds like we'll just miss the race. I'll continue to research and sounds like Buxton is a must! Thanks!

We will have a car so maybe it's worth the trip to Thornbridge. I checked the maps and it really appears that other than a couple of pubs within a mile of where we are...there isn't a whole lot else around in the area. I would love to get to a couple breweries and it sounds like Thornbridge and Buxton are the places to hit. Thanks for the tip!!

Ended up at the Cask Pub and Kitchen and tried a Magic Rock Human Cannonball which was pretty good but probably not worth £7.50. Also Dry & Bitter Mahalo pineapple saison, which wasn't very saison-esque, just lots of sour fruit.

Been at a siren craft tap takeover tonight at port street beer house in Manchester. They had Caribbean chocolate cake on keg which was amazing and a chocolate orange version on cask which smelt
Incredible but tasted a bit sickly. Also had limoncello iPa aged in bourbon barrels and a vanilla Berliner weisse, and I had a schlenkerla fastenbier on keg which was pretty awesome. Final stop was a beavertown bloody ell from Piccadilly tap.
