Hello all beer advocates I started trying all sorts of various brews when I turned 21, and I have reached 150 at age 22. I have a goal in mind of reaching 1,000. I'm wondering if the goal is totally out of bounds, and also if there are some great brews you could recommend that I haven't tried yet.

Depends what age you plan to tick 1000 by, could be done by age 25 I'd imagine. You've tried more beers than myself in the first year of drinking craft. Reminds me that in the first year I joined BA, I was able to try many of the coveted beers that I learned about from this website. (Think tier 2 whales lol)

I have 75 to go before 1,000. I had about 200 ticks by the end of college, mostly mass produced stuff. Started keeping track again at the beginning of 2012. 1,000 is doable rather quickly with just 1 beer when you get home (no need to over do it). Add in a beer festival here and there, and you'll be there in 2 years. Make lots of tasting friends and it'll be even quicker.

No it's not impossible, but it's not a race either...

I've been going for about 3 years and just hit 1,000. You can do it!

same age and probably have the goal of being a beer guru with a well defined palate.

ive probably had more than 300 unique brews but didnt track them as i should. 1000 isnt unreasonable but my total wine claims to have 2500 different beers and id say it easily over 1000 just in their singles and import section. if i won the lottery id for sure get to 1000 in one year but for now i pace myself and try 2-3 new beers a week

1,000 is easily achievable. With over 2,500 brewers just in the US, most of whom produce multiple beers, 1,000 beers is only a small fraction of what is out there. Go for it!

I think it's completely feasible for you to reach 1,000. I'd try all the beers you can get at your local breweries, and then visit stores like Total Wine where you can buy singles. You can get through a lot of beers that way pretty quickly.

As already stated, It is not a race.
Keep track of everything, remember what you like, and what you don't, but do not be afraid to try something new.

Enjoy the trail of empties on the way to 1000, but remember 2000 is the next goal after 1000!

I've been ticking for almost exactly two years and I've reached 730-some reviews. I've been goin at it pretty hard but not quite as obsessive as others on this site. If you wanna reach 1000 and still have a life, you won't reach it 'til you're 24 or 25. The amount of expendable income you have is a big factor. Oh and are you counting reviews or just ratings? Because I'm only counting reviews.

I know a dude who did about 125 in two weeks at Bukowski's in Boston trying to become a member of their Mug Club. At that rate you'll be done in roughly 3 1/2 months.

You'll tire of this. Not before you reach some kind of milestone that satiates you but you'll grow weary of it. It's beer, not baseball cards. Enjoy the ride and contemplate each pint in front of you.
Some great brews to recommend that you haven't tried yet? Well, you've only tried 150

^ Don't listen to him, beer is baseball cards for adults. My only advice is to not overlook some of the widely available beers right beneath your nose. My guess is that since you're casting such a wide net you won't have this problem. But, many on here who have never had Founders Dirty Bastard, available anywhere Founders distributes, will do everything they can to search out it's barrel aged counterpart while never even trying the great beer sitting on the shelf right in from of them.

You are doing it wrong. You only get adjuncts until 25. Come back in 4 years.

1000 shouldn't be a problem, depending on the time frame. I've got a journal of the beers I've drank and I am well into the 3ks, but I've been at this for years now.

I joined BA shortly after turning 21 in May. I haven't kept track of how many beers I've tried, but I have been able to knock off a few white whales of mine. All my "goals" are just individual beers I'd like to try. Didn't take long at all for me to try Heady Topper, got 2 four packs in August. Heck, I've got a Flora Satsuma Mandarin headed to me from a trade shortly. So yeah, my goals are all whales. Not numbers of beers.

Well, to quote poet H. Simpson, "I'm gonna drink a lot of beer, and stay out all night!"
