Last week I stopped for lunch at Bridgewaters Pub in Philly's 30th Street Train Station and discovered on the bottle menu that I could order a 2003 Aventinus (the one cellared by the Brewery for several years before being released). Not having seen an aged Aventinus in a few years I decided to bite the bullet and pay bar prices to have one with lunch. It was a good decision. The beer is holding up well and worth a try. Does anyone else know of places in the Philly area where there is a "lucky find" just waiting for the right customer to come along and appreciate it?

Great find. Bridgewaters Pub is a blessing, isn't it? Especially for being located in a train station! I've missed a few boardings as a result of the great food and beer there.

I've come across a bunch of lucky finds in the Philadelphia area. Most recently at TJ's when the were selling bottles of Better Half with no fanfare (sp?). I also happened upon a nice bar in West Chester recently called Side Bar - and have been back several times since. Almost always a great taplist. (They got a keg of the Younger this year so I assume they've been doing their thing for a while now though.)

It's hard to feel "lucky" when you frequent spots like TJ's, Teresa's and Capones... I guess you can determine your own luck to a degree!

being able to walk into Monks and buying for reasonable prices, considering, 2004 & 2005 LP Kriek, 2004 & 2005 LP Geuze, Fou Foune, and then just work you way up from there... on a regular basis. <3 Tom.

The Flying Pig in Malvern has some great stuff, especially their aged beer. The 2006 Gouden Carolus Cuvee van de Blauw is incredible, along with the 2006 Old Stock and 2005 Orval. Once I got 2 bottles of deliverance there for $7 each, though I think they just screwed up the price

Indeed Bridgewaters is a fine place and so unexpected in a train station. The Side Bar, time for a visit to West Chester. Yes, one can determine their own luck. As Jefferson once said, "I'm a great believer in good luck. The harder I work the more I have of it."

I was happy to find and get the last bottle of Portamarillo at Max's recently. I had been looking to try this one for a while.

Sweet, but is that really an unexpected find/luck? Max's is always solid with their selection...
