Am I the only one that thinks this beer is underrated here on BA?...only an 84? I think this west coast style IPA deserves much higher..at least in the 90's.

I agree with MikeP64, it seems underrated to me. I'm just happy I can find it in SC now, and it's not hard to find in NC either.

Over the edge is an an outstanding beer from an outstanding brewery that I think is on the brink of blowing up. The Charlotte brew scene is in under rated and under valued in our so called culture. Good beer, pretty awesome location, I like the brand image (very cool artwork). Speaking of it I really wanna go back there. Now I will say that I have had varying levels on consistency from unknown in regards to the over the edge, but when its on point its straight fire.

I have said a few times on here that I really like a lot of unknowns stuff (especially the small batch and seasonal stuff). OTE is a good beer, definitely not a great beer (to me). I prefer 3C if I'm going to be grabbing a CLT IPA. I still haven't had wooden robot's offerings. OTE is definitely better than HDnR right now though.

Side note: I'm very interested in the hominy/sorghum imperial brown ale Unknown has coming up. I think they've done extremely well with their food beers.

It is a decent beer along the lines of something like 60 Minute. Definitely not a west coast style IPA though (unless they have changed it significantly since the last time I had it). In my opinion, the best/most consistent IPA canned in Charlotte is still 3C IPA by a large margin.

Based on my rating, and where it sits versus others on the site, I would say it is slightly underrated. I have picked it up a few times and haven't had any issues with consistency, and it was always tasty. Tough to stand out in such a crowded space these days, even if it is well made.

I represent them in SC so I don't want to sound overly biased but I will say this- when an account picks up the beer it sticks. The hominy/sorghum beer is called Bound for Carolina and they have some other upcoming cool stuff. We just got Scratch and Sniff in kegs and last year those flew out. I expect the same this year.

I thought their quad (raisin the roof?) was very good, and teleporter is still my favorite Charlotte beer.

Pretty solid in my opinion...much better on draft than in the can, it's just not rare, sexy or trendy enough to rate in the 90s:wink:

I like a lot of things about Unknown, especially their space and their branding. I've had both great and meh experiences with their beers, however, Over The Edge is accurately-rated to me. Teleporter is absolutely fantastc though, and so is Hospitali-Tea. Garage Warrior was a fun and tasty super-collab, and Rise Against Clowns was weird but I brought it to bottle-share while in line at a FF release and a couple dudes flipped out over it. I've had probably another half-dozen of their beers that I can't remember right now, but I always make it a point to stop in and try something new (if available) on Panthers gamedays when I'm in the area.

Rise against clowns had a weird finish to me, but wasn't bad by any means. I liked 1.5ish a lot, but I'm guessing not many others did because it's turding it up on shelves everywhere. I really enjoyed their scotch ale "battle of the shirts" also.

I wanted to try this and never did. LOVE scotch ales. Hopefully it will come back soon.

I think it's because of the price. Same with their Dirty Commie Heathen. Way too expensive for a non-barrel aged, mediocre Imperial Stout. IMO they're just an okay brewery.

DCH was disappointing this year. Last year's was definitely better. I also didn't like how they tried to cleverly word the label so it sounded barrel aged but instead (I think) only used bourbon barrel chips or bourbon soaked chips or something like that.

Over the Edge is a pretty solid standard IPA. I'd put it as a "second-tier" NC IPA. Not a bad beer by any stretch, but it is in a crowded field nowadays.
