I've really enjoyed Liefmans Kriek, especially before they switched over to Cuvee Brut (which seems sweeter to me), but haven't had too many other versions of this style. In the blog posted below, the writer mentions an unsweetened version of the Liefmans' being made available in limited quantities, draft only, to certain places in Belgium: http://belgianbeerspecialist.blogspot.com/2010/07/brouwerij-liefmans-of-oudenaarde.html

Anybody know if this has ever made it over to the states? Alternatively, can anyone recommend a good, unsweetened kriek that might be more easily available to a Midwest-bound beer lover?

you may have luck finding de ranke's kriek...very good and definitely not too sweet.

can you get odell? not quite a kriek, but their friek is good, easier to find (here at least) and not too sweet.

edit: oh yeah, def look for hanssens oude kriek. it's the one that i find easiest here and it's also about the most tart of any that i've had so far. great beer

These are fairly widely available on the East Coast, but I noticed them less when I was in the Midwest. Either way, take a look for these.
