Never seen this one before. I have a package coming from Chicago, sent on Monday. It arrived in Mesquite, TX (just outside of Dallas) at 9pm on Tuesday night, so everything seemed fine for the scheduled Wednesday delivery. Next time I checked, there was no delivery date at all, and the following exception was listed for the package: "Due to local operation disruption, packages not unloaded from trailer, expect a one day business day delay" No idea what that means, but the box is 2 hours away from me, we have no weather issues that would delay it, and yet its been sitting there for 36 hours now with no update. Ever seen this before? I'm going to call them this morning and see what the deal is, but this was a new one for me.
I had something like that with FedEx recently, but the box showed up the next day so I never inquired. It had seemed to me like they just overpromised/predicted on the delivery date (one day from IL to MI like they listed for the box is possible, but I always figure on two) and had more to deliver that first day than expected or maybe they were just understaffed for the day (which is what "local operation disruption" sounds like to me).
Except its now been 3 business days, and its still sitting there, 2 hours away, with no update. I emailed them and they said they've had "major service disruptions" due to higher than expected rates of packages, and they can't tell me when I'll actually get the box. I checked their Fb page and apparently this is happening all over the country, and people are pissed. So be careful shipping with UPS right now - they have no idea when they can deliver your package
Between cyber Monday and the start of flu season, this isn't that surprising. Call UPS if you have to
Between my outrageous Christmas work schedule, and the higher than normal volume of packages going out this time of year; I told my trading partners I wouldn't be doing anymore trading until after the holidays. Not so much because of the potential for damage (I try to pack so it would survive a mortar shell), but for this exact reason. The potential for delay and combination of bitter cold in some areas made me a little nervous about a trade sitting on a truck or warehouse too long. Add to that "Cyber Monday" week, and things were bound to add to that nervousness. Everyone has their favorite ways to pack and ship. Being still somewhat new trading, I was playing it more safe than sorry. I am sure everything is fine with your box . . . it's just gonna be a little late.
I'm sure its fine. Its just annoying not know whats going on, and not being able to get a straight answer from them. I'll just wait and watch, and hope nothing explodes.
