    Hey everyone,

Still quite new to Portland (I moved here about 2 and a half months ago) and taking in the shear magnitude of amazing beer here has been a joy, if not a bit overwhelming. I'm looking to get myself to more events, releases, etc in order to get more plugged into the beer scene. Are there any events in the coming weeks I should be aware of? Are there any good sites for upcoming beer events in Portland? What are some of the big, annual fests? Any guidance is much appreciated!

    1: Welcome to Portland!

2: I tend to be biased towards small, low key events, so my answer will be swayed in that direction. There are two good options for this weekend. Saraveza is doing a barrel aged beer thing all weekend. Roscoe's does themed "summits" on the last weekend of each month that are always worth checking out (this month is new breweries of Oregon). As always, there's plenty more going on, but these are the ones that caught my eye.

As for the big ones, Oregon Brewers Fest is the elephant in the room, though many of us avoid that one due to the huge crowds of rowdy frat boys. Portland International Beerfest is usually pretty good. Holiday Ale Fest is my personal favourite, though it's a ways off at this point.

For keeping up with fests and events, follow breweries and bars on twitter/facebook. Keep an eye out for fests at Bailey's (unfortunately, you just missed cellarfest) and Beermongers, as these two bars put on the best events in town imo. Also check out brewpublic.com and Beer Here on oregonlive.com.

I don't have much to add to @eatabagofbooger (which i just realized has the best name Ive seen in a long time)

However, I would also check out newschoolbeer.com

Also coming up is Zwicklemania, where the majority of breweries in town (and Hood Rriver, but shhhhhh) - open up their breweries and give free beer out of their tanks and tours of their facilities. I've never done it in Portland but I've heard its a bit of a shit show.

    Welcome to Portland.

Once you've sampled everything Portland has (I kid, I kid) don't forget to explore Oregon's other beer destinations. Someone else can give you info on the I-5 corridor, but some events in Bend you might want to put on your calendar:

Central Oregon Beer Week kicks off Memorial Day Weekend with a SMaSH (single malt and single hop) beer festival and other fun events
    Bend Brewfest August 13-15
    Little Woody September 4-5

In addition to the sites already mentioned, I also check out John Foyston's page on the Oregonian website. He does a good job of plugging the bigger upcoming beer events. He has a habit of referring to things being held "today", or "tomorrow". If you don't look at the date of his post, it's easy to get confused, especially with the mid-week events.

I wholeheartedly second NewSchoolBeer and using Twitter.

Also, Lompoc/Fifth Quadrant/Sidebar up on Williams has their Blackout on February 20th. It was one of my favorites of last year. http://www.lompocbrewing.com/events/2059/

The only thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is brewnotice.com - go there, sign up, and select all the bars you frequent. Every afternoon you'll get an email listing who tapped what, which is awesome for those rare times when you want a beer and there's no events going on.

I registered there the last time you mentioned it and received the confirmation, but have yet to receive any emails for tappings in Seattle or Portland. I thought it was no longer active.

Hey, SeaAle, I'm one of the creators of Brew Notice. We're definitely still active! Could you send an email to ap[at]brewnotice.com with the email address you registered with? From there I'll be able to figure out what's going on.

Did I just go check to see if Growler Guys PDX is actually doing growlers of Notorious?

Of course I did. And of course they aren't.
