I brewed a 5 gallon amber ale today. I based the recipe off of 70%. I changed my sparge method to one that I can easily repeat. I lautered the first runnings, added my sparge water and stirred. I let that sit for 10 minutes then lautered. I was shooting for a pre boil OG of 1.046 and I hit 1.0455. Close enough.

I am going to repeat this recipe next week and see if I can repeat the numbers. I'll use different yeast and hops, of course.

    Thanks for the help.

Also, sorry for anything I posted between the hours of 11 and 2 last night. We were trying to figure out what was wrong with some homebrew and it got out of hand.

They were on the money as well. 6.5 gallons pre boil and I have a hair under that. It's nice to have a stress free brew day and not worry about extra boil time or anything like that.

There's no shame in buying some DME if you undershoot your mark. I mean, I don't do it. But that's out of sheer laziness.
