This may be buried or perhaps addressed in the past before my time, but any discussions regarding the reclassification of the forum regions? I imagine it wasn't easy to create them in the first place, but curious if this was discussed during the web redesign or will be reviewed in the future?

As a former resident of Upstate NY (near Rochester), it makes no sense for that area to be considered "Mid-Atlantic". It's a 6 hour drive to the ocean from there, but only 4 to Cleveland. That said, not sure how feasible it would be to chop up the various boundaries into anything that makes sense, other than state lines.

We here in the PNW consider Northern Idaho as part of our area, whereas Southern Idaho is more like Utah. Where would we draw the lines? Hell, even in WA/OR, the East sides of the states (East of the Cascades) are different than the Wet sides. Shrug. Any way it's split, it's going to be arbitrary. The way it is is probably simplest.

Our forums were based on official regional groupings when they were originally created. We currently have no plan or reason to change them.

That said, if we ever did change things we'd probably consolidate regions as per current US Census Regions and Divisions. But I'd be very hesitant as it would potentially results in thousands of misplaced threads that couldn't be mapped over to their new region.

Splitting a state across multiple regions will never be considered.

Stay with what we've got - no matter how things are divided up, someone will be able to find a problem with it. People in Minnesota still argue over whether or not we are part of the Midwest, upper Midwest, or North. There are 10,000 more useful things to talk about.
