Updates: Events + More

This weekend I decided to tackle the Events section of the site, which hasn't seen much of an upgrade since I first hand-coded it well-over a decade ago. My goal was to bring more awareness and interaction to Events, and make it a bit easier to add them.

Details

• Multi-day support. No more submitting numerous entries for events that span multiple days or times/session. Enter it once, set the End date and we'll handle the rest.
• Calendar view for Start and End date for less typing and human errors.
• New "Invite Your Friends!" feature which allows you to send an invite to fellow BAs. Members will receive a red alert (like Inbox and Alerts) over the Events navigation if sent an invite; listed under "Your Events.". Invite max of 25 per submission. Invites will fail for members who haven't logged in within the last 2 weeks, are banned or are invalid. Invited by display within the event details.
• New Events page for members. View upcoming events that you RSVP'd to or have been invited to, past events and declined (invited and replied no to) events.
  
• Replaced event duration with an End date with Midnight support.
• New "Are you going?" interface to make RSVPing easier/more clear. Select Yes, Maybe or No.
• Updated event pages, listings, sidebars and search to support multi-day support.
  
• Cleaned up layouts and fixed some bugs.
• Improved database queries and listings.

To-Dos

• A better interface for inviting friends.
• Add conversations to events.
• Add public view for Your Events.
• RSVP to invited events inline when viewing event lists.
• Opt out/Block event invites from specific members.
• Notice for inviting a member that's already RSVPd.
• Enhanced usability with some jQuery/Ajax magic in next year's site redesign.
• Misc tweaking.

More

• Added sub and quick navigation links for Your Beers, Places and Events.
• If one of Your pages is selected, the main section navigation is now displayed for a better flow.
• Updated beer trader feedback format to "feedback%|# trades."
• Added a red alert (like Inbox and Alerts) over the Trading navigation for pending trades; listed under "Your Trades."

Event Updates:

• If you have any event invites, the Events navigation will take you directly to your upcoming events with quick pulldowns to RSVP. Otherwise the navigation will take you to the calendar.
• Added common links across all event pages.
• Fix misc bugs.

Trading Updates:

• If you have any pending trade requests, the Trading navigation will take you directly to your pending requests. Otherwise the navigation will take you to the main trading page.
• Pending = trade requests you've yet to accept. Used for the alert.
• Open = trades awaiting feedback from both parties.
  

 

Event Update:

• Added code/link to view your Submitted events.

• Your Events (Upcoming) now public.
• Added Upcoming link under Events on member profile pages.
