My daughter just had her college graduation this past weekend and since we live close to the campus we hosted a party for several of her friends and their families. I was unsure of the beer tastes of her friends and was told they would bring their own beer. But as a good host I couldn't totally rely on them bringing their own - and fearing that they might bring bud et al. - I loaded up my cooler with a variety of beers from our local Ithaca Beer Company.

Well... I was surprised when her friends showed up bringing (i) Great Lakes Variety Pack, (ii) 21st Amendment Variety Pack, and (ii) several six packs of Anderson Valley - including Briney Melon Gose.

So... I'm happy to report that it seems that craft beer is alive and well in today's college kids... at least those my daughter hangs with!

Oh how I wish that I was in college today vs. 2 years ago... Literally, Hofbrauhaus Cleveland is a short few minute walk from the engineering building. I had a lot of 2-3 hr breaks inbetween classes, too... haha.. Opened about a year after I graduated :slight_frown:

My freshman dorm fridge was full of boulevard and Sierra Nevada stuff, with an occasional TG bomber or two. It isn't super common on college campuses, but you'd be surprised at the amount of people who drink craft in college.

I was surprised at first that one of the most popular beers on my college campus is Golden Monkey from Victory. But really, it makes total sense. 9.5% ABV, just a tad over $10 a six pack, and a fairly sweet, non-bitter taste makes it perfect college drink. Even though they aren't always choosing it for the best reasons, I'm still happy to see so many of my peers drinking one of my favorite beers, and introducing themselves to quality beer.

My youngest just graduated last weekend for the past seven years (had two go there ) I've been amazed at the selection of beers readily available in the IC. I'll certainly miss it, especially arriving for FAC. $4.00 for a 32oz TG

I was unfortunately unaware of the mighty Bell's while in school in Kalamazoo.
