On October 2nd Upland Brewing Company will open an online lottery for the release of three of its prized sour ales: Kiwi, Dantalion, and Permission Slip. Bottles will be limited to no more than one bottle per style per winner.

The lottery will open at noon EDT on Sunday October 2nd and close at noon on October 9th. To enter visit www.uplandsours.eventbrite.com.

You must specify your preferred pick-up location (Bloomington Brewpub or Indianapolis Tasting Room in Broad Ripple) at the time of entry, and pickup locations cannot be changed after a reservation request has been made.
Lottery winners will be randomly drawn and notified via email on October 13th, and can purchase the sour ale(s) they were awarded at their preferred pickup location from October 22nd through November 5th. People who wish to take a sour brewery tour, offered November 1st at 3 and 4p.m. and November 2nd at 3, 4, 5 p.m, should choose Bloomington as their pickup location. Reservations will be required for tours and can be made by emailing [email protected].

Bottles may be picked up at the Bloomington Brew Pub 11am-midnight Monday through Thursday, 11am-1am Friday and Saturday, and noon to midnight Sunday, or at the Indianapolis Tasting Room 4pm-10pm Monday through Thursday and noon to midnight Friday and Saturday. Please note the Indianapolis Tasting Room cannot sell carryout on Sunday, in accordance with Indiana state law. Each bottle will cost $25 plus applicable sales tax.

Kiwi Lambic: Upland lambics are fermented by wild yeast and aged in oak casks for over a year, which creates a tart, complex beer. We then add whole kiwis, giving the beer enticing aromas and flavors. The beer is bottle conditioned, which adds a zesty and refreshing carbonation. Kiwi Lambic is the perfect drink to share with friends over a plate of good cheese and fresh fruit.

Permission Slip: A brand new collaboration beer with our friends at Jolly Pumpkin. Permission Slip is a unique blend of two base beers. The first beer, brewed at Jolly Pumpkin, features raw wheat and flaked oats for a soft mouthfeel, intrinsic flavors of JP’s house yeast, and aromatic Mosaic and Amarillo hop additions, all aged on Indiana persimmons. The second beer is Upland Sour Reserve, refermented for 3 months on fresh Dragonfruit. Blended together these beers create a melange of peach, apricot, and tropical fruit flavors with Belgian yeast character and polite lactic and acetic acid. Please enjoy with friends over grilled pineapple and pulled pork.

Dantalion: Dantalion is our demonically named sour ale based on the Oud Bruin beer style. Medium brown in color, Dantalion has hints of chocolate, Munich malts, and rye. We also incorporate a spice blend containing ginger, coriander, star anise, grains of paradise, and black pepper to create a gentle halo of spice character. The beer is fermented on the same selection of yeasts and microbes as our base lambic, and aged for up to 8 months or more in white oak barrels.

I can proxy for anyone at the Indy location. I did Bloomington last time too and it turned into a mess. But if you need an Indy proxy, I'm already going for a SBS member so I can help anyone else who needs it.

I am interested in trying the lottery but fear I won't be able to pick up. Do they let others pick up for you. Don't want to waste my time in lottery if I have no option of a helper at pick up.

After you win you find a proxy, a bunch will be on here, and work out the terms of picking up the beer and shipping it to you. You send them a copy or photo of your DL and i think thats it. Someone out there correct me if I'm wrong please. @spicoli00

In the past, a copy of the winner's ID was fine. Make sure that the name entered in Eventbrite is EXACTLY the same as it is on the ID. I nearly ran into an issue last lottery because of that. NO NICKNAMES. Otherwise, it's really simple for the trustee.

I had a chance to take a tour in February when I was picking up bottles and Caleb pulled the nail out to let us try the Kiwi. It was so sour and refreshing. I'm very excited for this.
