I've been using an upright freezer with an external temperature controller as a cellar for just over a year now. It stays a fairly constant 55, and usually drops to about 47 when the freezer kicks on. Initially I had problems with condensation building up on the racks, but after placing a couple dampRid containers inside it did the trick. However this summer the issue returned even with 3 damprid containers inside. Also the small amount of liquid thats being trapped in the container is frozen at the bottom even though I know the freezer is not hitting freezing temps. Some labels are starting to peel and I'm not really sure what to do? Any suggestions would be great.

Any luck solving your problem? I've got a lot of moisture in mine this summer too.

Actually yeah, I'm not sure if it was a coincidence considering the temps have not been as brutal in NH lately, but I turned off my freezer for about 24 hours, left the Damprid containers inside, wiped everything down with towels, and then when it was dry, turned it back on, its been over a week with a perfectly controlled freezer, no condensation buildup.

Thanks. I was thinking about trying that. I'll definitely do it now.

Sell it and buy a chest freezer.

How much can you fit in it?

I ask because I have a 500+ bottle cellar and I'm about to move into a place without this sexy cinder lock basement. 2nd floor apartment? Ugh.

I don't have specifics but I have around 100+, can only fit bombers in the first shelf and door, but fully stocked I could prolly do 150+ mix bombers, 375's, 12oz, cans. I looked into chest freezers but I wasn't into the hassle of moving shelves of bottles just to get to the bottom row.

My cellar is down to around 600 bottles from around 900. I started collecting glasses instead of beer. Now I have too many glasses, but don't have to worry about the temp of the glasses, or how long to age them.
