Just had a package get labeled with an alcohol exception when it was on the truck for delivery earlier this morning. I havent heard anything from UPS yet. Anybody know what happens from here?

Hope for the best. Is this something you shipped or something that was inbound to you?

I shipped it, it got there and was on the truck earlier today and then the exception showed up.

More likely than not, it will be returned to you. Keep an eye on the tracking and see if it's headed back your way. If you get it back, your best course is to ship FedEx upon receipt. Be sure to check your packing to see if there is anything that would indicate to someone handling your box that it contains beer/glass/etc.

I agree with the above. You'll likely get it back. Repack it (better this time probably ) and send it out FedEx.

Appreciate the feedback, looks like it'll be FedEx moving forward. I hope I get it all back.

UPS is becoming a real pain in the ass for beer traders

To be fair, many people have had similar issues with FedEx.

And to be real fair, I have received some boxes that should have never made it to me judging by how they were packed. Reuse packing material, use a lot of it, pack your individually wrapped bottles tightly, make sure if one breaks, the liquid will be contained (ie. ziplocks or trash bags). Tape the shit out of everything.

I've seen a lot of reports of FedEx returning packages for improper alcohol shipment, but this is the first I've heard of UPS. Granted that most people use FedEx (I believe 80/20 in the last poll), but still. I'd love to know the outcome of this.

Hahaha...I hear you man. Seen plenty of boxes like that and with harder to get beers too. I usually comment back to them "wow, that's some brave packing job!". Regardless, I don't think the OP box was damaged. If it was, UPS tracking status would indicate so so it's not a problem of packing.

A side note, I don't mean to pick on your bolded part, but I'd suggest ONLY tape the shit out of the outside of the box and label, not the bubble wrap. Maybe that what you meant.

Yea, that's what I meant. I try and tape the entire outside of the box. Tape is cheap, buy it by the case on the interwebz

I've received boxes that were more tape than cardboard haha. Whatever works to get it to the recipient safely.

I was half-assed kidding, I haven't had a problem with either, other that UPS losing, and then finding, a shipment

Yeah, it seems the company isn't as much a factor as the specific employees handling the packages.

People need to realize boxes don't have an unlimited life span, as much as we all try to re-use stuff, there reaches a point where a box barely is a box anymore and needs to be thrown out.

It was a reused box, not new. I put additional cardboard around the insides, taped the bottom and top. Foam pad in the bottom, each bottle was bubble wrapped, bubble wrap in between the layers of bottles and packing peanuts to fill in the gaps.

I'm gonna have to go box inside a box next time through FedEx, I feel really bad for this guy, it was his first trade.

The only thing I can think of is that it fell or got dropped from a high vantage point and it just shattered.

Had a package returned last month from UPS to a friend, it was cut open at the top, 2 bottles taken out and re-taped. Never made it outside on NJ, box was returned in perfect shape minus the re-tape job.

Even if something is obviously a liquid, how do they determine its alcohol? I ship water samples for work all the time, and I'm sure there are tons of legitimate liquids that get shipped. It seems like terrible business practice for them to try and police what's in the boxes they handle.

    Agreed.

I simply head to Walmart and purchase my brand new go to size box for a mere 60 cents when I ship out.

Also, NEVER a fragile sticker etc. IMO, a huge reason for someone to be curious about the contents.

    Cheers

While I don't know how they can tell the difference in say soda and beer, I'm guessing you've never sent ten 750ml bottles of water samples. Though just an assumption.
