Do you find one better than the other ? Cheaper? Faster ? or is it just a convenience thing ?

FedEx gives me better prices. That's the only reason I use them.

I use Fedex only because the people of UPS are far to cautious and ask too many questions.

    Cheers!

Fedex for me, cheaper. Sent a 19 lb box MN to CA today, Fedex was 21.xx, UPS quoted 30.xx, no brainier at that point.

I have always used UPS because that's what the shipping departments at my workplaces have used. It's nice sending a couple of bottles from Montana to Indiana for $6.

personally I like FedEx better. Whenever I order anything online I have a better experiences with FedEx than UPS. Plus FedEx delivers on Saturday, so that lowers the possibility of your package sitting somewhere rather than being in your possession

FedEx is more convenient for me and was cheaper when I did my initial research, so they are the winners.

Not sure if UPS does this too, but if you have a FedEx account, you can order free bubble-padded envelopes that work great to wrap bottles. Much easier than buying a sheet of bubble-wrap.

    Plus, y'know, free.

FedEx is all I have used. I have only had one issue (a pkg delivered to wrong address), but it was resolved within an hour.

Fedex has is my personal favorite. Where on the site can you order the padded envelopes? I've looked and only ones I found were envelopes with and without built-in pouches. Are the pouches the bubble wrapped ones?

I've had absolutely no problems [knock on wood] with UPS at this point. In fact, this year they even sent me a christmas card! I've read that if you set up an online account, you're able to - in away - create your own lower prices by not quite getting your measurements/weights quite right...but then, you maybe messing with Karma.....

FEDEX ONLY, 2 years ago at Belguim Comes to Cooperstown (the camping trip at Ommegang) UPS calls me and tells me they pretty much danced a jig on my box and were pissed that they had to clean up the mess. So FedEx ONLY!!!!!!!

To answer my own question, I only use Fedex. Cheaper, quicker and Saturday deliveries.
Thank you all for confirming my assumptions.

The people at my local FedEx Office have never, not once, asked me what's in my package. The Saturday delivery is also a huge deal for me. I can get a package anywhere in the contiguous US without it sitting in a warehouse over the weekend because of that. Being cheaper than UPS (in my experience) is just icing on the cake.

I've used both quite and don't really have a strong preference for either. If you don't create your own shipping labels, they will be equally expensive. If you create your own labels, they are pretty similarly priced. FedEx is also more picky about box weight on created labels and will bill you extra if you're even a couple of dollars off (even if unintentional because you have a shitty scale like me). Yes, FedEx has Saturday deliveries, though that doesn't make too much of a difference--I've dropped off a box at a FedEx on a Saturday and a UPS on a Friday and had them both take until the following Friday to get to CA from NC. I've also had a trading partner ship me a box the same day as I sent him one, him by FedEx and mine by UPS, and mine made it a day earlier. I've also had FedEx overnight one of my boxes randomly and beat the crap out of it in the process, causing a break.

Ultimately, it's usually all anecdotal evidence as to why a person prefers one over the other. From my experience using both, I've not found any significant difference in price or delivery times. I sent two boxes to the same place in CA in the past couple of months and I think FedEx might have been $2 cheaper for a slightly smaller and slightly lighter box, and they both took the same amount of time. The biggest difference comes from creating your own labels, which will shave $5-10 off your shipping price for some boxes. I tend to just use whichever is most convenient for dropping the box off.
