Always use FedEx. Never had an issue. I never had to say what I was shipping. I just pack the shit out of my boxes so nothing can happen or move around and send it on its merry way.

I would tell her to call the cops and waste their time if she wanted. Somebody saying that to me about something so unimportant would piss me off more than anything.

instead of going to a UPS store take it to an authorized UPS sub store dozens around a 10 mile area where i live , they have pick ups everyday they are privately owned, open an account with UPS print your labels from the internet and simply drop off no questions are asked ever

I made an account on fedex.com, enter all the parameters, guess the weight and dimensions (if its wrong they change it and charge you more or less), print the shipping label, tape it to the box, and I walk in, say, "All set," and walk out, no one gives two shits. I love it. They seem happy they don't have to do any work.

Luckily my shipping lady (private store owner that ships USPS, UPS, FedEx and common carrier) only seems to be concerned about getting/keeping my business.

    Mission accomplished.

I bet everyone in that lady's housing development hates her. Always getting letters about having too many lawn chairs or cutting their grass a day late or a 1/2 hour too early. I'm sure she threatens to call the police all the time. What a bee-otch

Whoever thinks vigilante justice involves enforcing shipping laws needs to take a look at their life...

The people that work at my local Fedex couldn't give a crap about what's in the box. They just want to process it so they can go back to not working.

Unfortunately FedEx isn't perfect either. I dropped a box off in San Diego near the Ballast Point Home Brew Mart a few years ago and had it opened. After I was home in IL I got a call from the over zealous kid at that FedEx Office location. He was letting me know that the only options available were to have my box picked-up or destroyed. Lucky someone in SD came through, picked it up, and re-"shipped" it for me. Sending alcohol without a proper license is against the law. So UPS/FDX are well within their right to not only refuse to ship something, but it's common for boxes not to be delivered. It came up occasionally on the old boards.

This here is your problem. Each UPS station is owned by a proprietor. Go to another UPS Store.

Also, set up a UPS account. Weigh your package, print your label at home, and take your package to the UPS Store (not the one with the Nosy Nelly) and send it on its way. When I print my own labels, I've never had a problem or even a question.

Can anyone who knows the process tell me if my account could be "flagged" for suspicious activity?

I always use UPS, and have never so much as been questioned about my hilariously inaccurate weight estimates. Create your shipment online, pay, print the label, and drop it off at a store.

Just call their 1-800 and ask. Say you wanted to ship a collectable wine bottle and the lady refused. Its funny they get mad at beer. Yet they ship wine from wineries without any problems.

Buy a cheap label printer online, open an account with fed ex or UPS. When you have an acct with them they will give you free supplies. (bubble mailers, boxes, etc)

print, package, and pay for your own boxes, and then either take them to a UPS store or have them pick it up. You will never be questioned again.

I take that as a compliment! I think it a bit strange that someone from fed ex or UPS opens your parcel to see what is in it, nothing more and nothing less. We have Postal investigators, Police and Customs for that and NOT the postal office. I see America as a civilized country but not in this matter.........

We have a law about opening letters by other persons in Holland which is very strict, sometime a bit too strict. There is story from a guy who had send letters to politicians and other well known Dutch celebreties with a treath letter and a bullet in it. At the end of the Police investigation they found out the guy posted the letters somewhere in Rotterdam. They checked postboxes from the entire Rotterdam area with x-ray because the district attorny did not get the permission from his superiors to open letters to see what was in it. When the content of a letter was determined with the x-ray machine and the bullet was seen that way they got permission to open the letter.

For the rest enjoy your beer guys and girls,

    Thijs

The wineries have business accounts with their shippers, and pay a fee to be able to ship alcohol. If you register as a business, you can do it too without a problem. I called around and asked about this specifically, and got the same answer from FedEx, UPS, and DHL.

I have only shipped beer twice, both time through USPS, and been questioned once. I told her it was soda, no problem, have a nice day.

It is my understanding you are really dancing with the devil using USPS. They can, and will, take legal action, as they are a government run service. Just doesn't seem worth it with the other independent options out there.
