I meant temp controlled. I've got a package stuck in Minneapolis due to the blizzard. They might keep it there today and it might not make delivery until next week. Anyone know if they generally have the warehouses temp above freezing? I've got a bottle of rare coming and I'd hate to have that thing freeze. Any insight would be of great help, thanks!

IIRC from working at UPS back in the day, if it is on the vehicle for delivery that truck will be parked inside the warehouse. If it is in the truck that it arrived on, and has yet to be sorted for delivery it will be parked outside.

If there is an arrival scan the box is inside the building, somewhere.

Thanks for the reply. The package has been scanned upon arrival, so I'm guessing its just hanging out in the warehouse waiting to be put on the next truck to head down way. I hope it at least makes it to the ups location in my town so i can at least go pick it up after work...

even if it gets below freezing I HIGHLY doubt it would freeze, its what 14% abv? I have left beers overnight in my car that where half that abv and it was in the single digits, they did not freeze.

I just picked up a package that was held overnight at the minneapolis ups location. Bottles seemed to be around room temp. I'd imagine you should be alright. Best of luck OP

Would you want to take that chance with a bottle of BCBS Rare? :grimacing: I know that I wouldnt!

Being that beer you have a better chance, but from all of the frozen fruit and frozen bottles that UPS has delivered to my house in the pas 2 weeks, I can confirm that nothing they own is heated.

The local person said that due to weather when trucks get held up, packages sit in tractor trailers OUTSIDE more than they sit on the delivery trucks inside.

Probably not, but seriously I just found a couple bottles of 6% abv that have been sitting in my garage this whole winter and they are still fine...

Is your garage heated? 2 weeks ago I had a trade that a 6% abv bottle I had recieved was a beerpopsickle.

The polar vortex is upon us once again. I would say you're just better off waiting for a trading window where temps aren't so extreme. Once it leaves your hands; you just don't know how your shipment is being handled or where it is while in transit. It's so easy to get impatient; I know I have, especially when IPA's are involved and you want your trading partner to get 'em as fresh as possible. The wait is always worth it though and, the risk is worth avoiding.
