Sorry if this is the wrong spot for this but I was anxiously awaiting a delivery today from a beer trade I was involved in and I just saw this on the tracking info:

Up until today it was regularly going through its normal arrival and departure scans and then out of nowhere today on its delivery day I see:

"Merchandise is missing. UPS will notify the sender with additional details. / All merchandise missing, empty carton was discarded. UPS will notify the sender with details of the damage."

Merch is missing? What does that even mean? Was I sent an empty box?

Sounds like a bottle broke during transit and all beer was discarded.

This will probably get moved to the trading subforum

Very unlikely you were sent an empty box. More likely that something broke and everything was removed / discarded.

Yikes, do I have to just chuck it up as a loss or what now? I sent some pretty good stuff away on this one.

It is up to your trading partner to replace the bottles they sent. It is impossible a bad packing job resulted in a bottle that broke or if not this it is still generally accepted that when the box doesnt make it to the receiver, sender needs to make good.

Was getting a few bottles of Maine Dinner in this one, hopefully he has some more! Only thing I am weary about is he had no trades to his name when we agreed upon ours and he has still not accepted my trade request that I sent several days ago so I was already semi nervous and go figure now there is no delivery to be made. :slight_frown:

I'm thinking maybe the packaging ripped and the contents slipped out? They wouldn't give me a clear answer when I called. Either way, I contacted the shipper and he was quick to offer a reship of the contents so hopefully all will be good! Thanks for the feedback. You can go ahead and delete this thread if you wish, case is likely closed.

Like everyone else mentioned, I'm sure something(s) broke and the contents were discarded after the box was opened. I'd guess they have some pre-written options to click on to classify what happened, and the employee went with the "contents missing" option because it generally fits the situation.

Good on your trading partner to be so quick to rectify everything. Glad everything worked out.

He spoke with his local UPS store and it all seems fishy on UPS's end. He bought all the packing materials at his local UPS store and shipped it all in good manner and it made its way from ME all the way to OH and at my local facility it suddenly became empty. There was no mention of damage when I called and when he called as well. They claimed "the packaging wasn't to their standards" even though he said he bought it all from UPS. They emptied it all out and then threw away the packaging and now the beer is nowhere to be found. It sounds a little crazy, but I feel like UPS legitimately jacked the beer for no good reason.
